Stalking: false claims of victimisation.

BACKGROUND: False allegations of victimisation although uncommon are important to recognise. This paper examines those who falsely claim to have been the victims of stalking. AIMS: To highlight the phenomenon of false victims of stalking. METHOD: Twelve individuals who falsely claimed to be victims of stalking were compared with a group of 100 true stalking victims. RESULTS: False stalking victims presented for help earlier than real victims and were less likely to claim harassment via letters. They reported equivalent levels of violence directed at themselves but seldom claimed others were attacked. Five types of false claimants were recognisable. False victims consumed more medical services than genuine stalking victims and they were more likely to be embroiled in legal action. They reported similar levels of distress with suicidal ruminations in over 40%. CONCLUSIONS: The current interest in stalking is promoting false claims of being stalked. Early identification of these cases and appropriate intervention are essential to both minimising abuses of resources available to true victims and equally to ensure appropriate care for those who express their own disordered state in false claims of victimisation.

[Schizophrenic defect syndromes and drive behavior].

First the terms "impulse" (Antrieb) and "schizophrenic defect" (schizophrener Defekt) are explained and defined. 49 (= 12 per cent) of the 409 schizophrenic in-patients, treated 1970-1972, had the symptoms of a schizophrenic defect. All of them showed disturbances of impulse: more than half the patients a deficiency, nearly a third an unsettled surplus, and about ten percent an alternating impulse. The deficiency as the alternating impulse usually were accompanied with a negativ mood. The surplus of impulse was bound up as equal parts with positive and negative moods. At last any kind of disturbances of described is illustrated by an example.

[Social-vocational readaptation of patients after a manifest episode of schizophrenia].

Over a 10-year period the author studied remissions in 110 patients with paroxysmal schizophrenia. The postmanifest remission and social and occupational readaptation after the attack were studied in detail. These parameters are collated with the clinical picture of initial disturbances and of a manifest attack. Variants of adaptation of patients with different types of remission are described. The authors have also studied the effect of clinical characteristics of the initial and manifest period on the subsequent adaptation of patients. The results of the examination may serve as a basis for the development of rehabilitative measures for patients with paroxysmal schizophrenia.

["Search strategy" in solving verbal logic problems by schizophrenic patients].

In a solution of logical tasks of a deductive character by normals and patients with paranoid schizophrenia, the latter find solutions in less than half of the cases. They attract a great amount of questions, the character of which are more concrete with an accent on "weak" signs rather than general. The patients do not display adequate plans in solving such tasks, the search of the semantic field is narrow. Assumingly there is a disorder of the structure and ierarchy of information kept in the brain.

[Language regression to the mother tongue in polyglot patients with acute psychosis].

Three bilingual patients with schizophrenia are presented, who spoke almost exclusively in their native language during acute episodes of psychosis. Normal use of the foreign language, German, was again possible after remission of the acute symptoms. This phenomenon of regression is similar to speech disorders in patients with aphasia and is discussed with reference to recent biological findings.
