[Treatment of tumors of the oral cavity. Long-term follow up of 1223 cases. Clinico-experimental computerized processing using BMDP program].

The study assesses a series of 1223 patients treated for oral cavity neoplasm at the Institute of Oncology of Turin. It confirms the proportional deterioration of the survival rate in correlation with the advanced stage of the carcinoma. It shows the influence of the different types of treatment on survival, particularly referring to tumor site and stage at the time of first treatment.

[Reconstruction of large facial and neck defects with skin-muscle flaps].

Operative interventions for malignant neoplasms and other large tumors in the facial-maxillary area produce large defects, which require reconstruction for functional and esthetic purposes. Arterialized skin-muscle flaps furnish reliable opportunities for reconstructions, as they are more resistant to the unfavourable conditions after radiation treatment and have functional and esthetic advantages over skin plasty and the plasty with Filatov's stem. Three patients with malignant neoplasms in the facial-maxillary area are reported. Reconstruction was accomplished with skin-muscle flaps m.latissimus dorsi and m.pectoralis major.

[Hard-x-ray therapy. The position between orthovolt- and ultra hard ray therapy (author's transl)].

The special position of "hard-ray therapy" (RT 305, 300 kV) between the orthovolt-therapy and the ultra-hard-ray therapy is described in physical respect and clinical practicability. In comparison with the orthovolt-therapy there is an advantage in better skin tolerance, the absence of bone shadows and the possibility to increase the depth-dose up to 50%. The main indications are given in the intermediate therapy and the short distance therapy of greater tumors. The palliative deep therapy is administered under better conditions as with the conventional x-ray irradiation.
