[Influence of qi-gong on plasma TXB2 and 6-keto-PGF1 alpha in two TCM types of essential hypertension].

Forty-five patients of essential hypertension differentiated into two TCM types, i.e. Gan Yang Shang Kang Zheng (GYSK) and Yin Xu Yang Kang Zheng (YXYK) were randomly selected. Among them, the 31 patients received qi-gong therapy including 12 GYSK cases (group b) and 19 YXYK cases (group c) and 14 patients (group d) received nifedipine therapy. It was found that the plasma 6-K-PGF1 alpha was increased and TXB2 as well as TXB2/6-K-PGF1 alpha ratio were decreased after the therapy (P < 0.05) in group b, c and d. No statistical significant difference was found between group b and group c (P > 0.05). The results suggest that qi-gong is regulatory on TXB2 and 6-K-PGF1 alpha in patients with essential hypertension and is identical in the two different TCM Zheng types.

A clinical trial of tang shen ning for treatment of diabetic nephropathy.

This paper reports the clinical trial of Tang Shen Ning ([symbol: see text], TSN) for treating diabetic nephropathy (incipient and clinical, as divided by Mogensen). The results showed that the total effective rate in treatment group (TSN + western medicine) was 90.0%, and that in the control group (simply with western medicine), 56.7%. TSN plays important roles in decreasing proteinuria and improving renal functions.

[Clinical study on Zishen Decoction in chronic uric acid nephrosis].

OBJECTIVE: To observe the ameliorative effect of Zishen Decoction (ZSD) on chronic uric acid nephrosis (CUAN). METHODS: The 72 CUAN patients were divided into 2 groups: The group with ZSD treatment, the dose of which was 400 ml/d and group with zyloric as the control, the dose of which was 200 mg/d. The treatment lasted for 8 weeks. RESULTS: The general effective rate of the ZSD group was 92.86%; and that of the control group Was 66.67%. There was significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.01). ZSD treatment reduced the levels of blood uric acid, serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen and the levels of albumin, beta 2-microglobulin and the activity of N-acetyl-D-glucosaminidase in CUAN (P < 0.01). The levels of triglyceride and total cholesterol decreased and the levels of high density lipoprotein cholesterol increased in the serum of ZSD treated CUAN (P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: ZSD exerted obviously ameliorative effect on renal function in CUAN.

[Clinical study on treatment of incipient diabetic nephropathy by integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the curative effect of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine (TCM-WM) on incipient diabetic nephropathy (DN). METHODS: One hundred patients with incipient DN were randomly divided into two groups, the treatment group (50 cases) was treated with TCM-WM therapy, which was carried out by using Jiangtang Janshenling (JTJSL) capsule, a Chinese preparation for supplementing Qi and nourishing Yin, on the basis of controlling blood glucose with western medicine effectively. The 50 patients in the control group were treated with western medicine alone. The course of treatment was three months. Changes of symptoms, signs, and related laboratory parameters were observed before and after treatment. RESULTS: The total effective rate in the treatment group was 90% while that in the control group was 58%, the difference between two groups was significant (P < 0.05). The related parameters including 24 hours urinary albumin excretion, blood sugar, microalbuminuria, blood and urine beta 2-microglobulin, blood lipids, and hemorrheology levels were all improved after treatment in the treatment group (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: The curative effect of TCM-WM was better than that of western medicine alone in treating incipient DN.

[Analysis of dynamic blood pressure of essential hypertension patients with Ganyang shangkangzheng or Gan-shengyinxuzheng].

Inspecting twenty-four hours dynamic blood pressure of sixty-two essential hypertension patients with Ganyang shangkangzheng or Gan-shengyinxuzheng in normal conditions and analysing blood pressure's dynamic regularity of the two groups with different traditional Chinese medicine Zheng type, we found that the blood pressure of Ganyang shangkangzheng patients was higher in the daytime than that at night, and the Gan-Shengyinxuzheng patients had the reverse results. The results suggest that the dynamic blood pressure value may be an objective index for differential diagnosis of traditional Chinese medicine Zheng types of patients with essential hypertension.

[Preliminary study on the treatment of diabetic retinopathy utilizing with nourishing yin, tonifying kidney and blood-activating herbs].

23 cases including 45 eyes of diabetic retinopathy treated with nourishing Yin, tonifying Kidney and blood-activating herbs were presented. The results showed that the serum viscosity and cholesterol were markedly decreased (P less than 0.01), and the implicit times of a-wave and b-wave in flash electroretinogram(F-ERG) were significantly advanced than those of themselves before treatment (P less than 0.01 and P less than 0.05 respectively). The visual acuity in most cases was improved and the effective rate was 64.44%. The therapeutical mechanism for diabetic retinopathy used by nourishing Yin, tonifying Kidney and blood-activating herbs were discussed. The authors suggested that the Chinese herbs probably could change the chemical and physical properties of blood, promote the ocular circulation and the absorption of sludged blood and decrease the retinal ischemia.

[Effect of Chinese herbal medicine for nourishing yin and purging fire on mRNA expressions of gonadotropin-releasing hormone and its receptor in precocious puberty model rats].

OBJECTIVE: To probe the mechanism of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) for nourishing Yin and purging Fire on the expressions of gonadotropin-release hormone (GnRH) and its mRNA expression in hypothalamus and GnRH receptor mRNA in pituitary in danazol induced precocious puberty model rats. METHODS: Rats were divided into the normal group, the model group, the blank control group and the CHM group. Rats, except that in the normal group, were subcutaneously administered danazol 300 micrograms at 5 days of age individually and CHM was fed to rats in the CHM group from 15 days of age, in the meantime, normal saline was fed to rats in the blank control group. Expression of GnRH in hypothalamus was observed by immunohistochemical method and expressions of GnRH mRNA in hypothalamus and GnRH receptor mRNA in pituitary were determined by RT-PCR. RESULTS: Compared with rats in the normal groups, the vaginal opening and the onset of first estrus were ahead of time, the number of GnRH immunoreactive positive cells decreased and the expressions of GnRH mRNA in hypothalamus and GnRH receptor mRNA in pituitary up-regulated in the model rats and blank control rats. Compared with the model and the blank control groups, in CHM group, all the above-mentioned abnormally changed parameters improved significantly after treatment. CONCLUSION: CHM for nourishing Yin and purging Fire may inhibit the abnormal hyperfunction of hypothalamus-pituitary-ovary axis in precocious puberty rat induced by danazol via reducing the synthesis and release of GnRH, and lowering the responsibility of pituitary cells to GnRH. This may be the primary mechanism of CHM in effectively treating the true precocious puberty.

[Clinical observation on treatment of acute myelocytic leukemia by supplementing qi, nourishing yin and clearing heat principle].

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical efficacy of TCM with supplementing Qi, nourishing Yin and clearing heat principle (SQNYCH) combined with chemotherapy in treating myelocytic leukemia. METHODS: One hundred and fourteen patients were randomly divided into the treated group (n = 68) and the control group (n = 46). To the treated group, SQNYCH was applied as the basic treatment, with combined chemotherapeutic protocol, using DA, HA and IA, to induce remission, and to the M3 patients, all-trans retinoic acid and arsenic trioxide were given. As for patients in the control group, only western medicine was administered. RESULTS: In the treated group 49 patients (72.1%) were completely remitted, 9 (13.2%) partially remitted and the total remission rate being 85.3%, which was significantly different from that in the control group. After treatment, the blood and bone marrow picture were obviously improved in both groups, but the increase of hemoglobin and platelet were better in the treated group than in the control group (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). Immune functions were enhanced in both groups, but the elevation of CD4, CD4/CD8 ratio and NK cells were higher in the treated group than in the control group (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Application of SQNYCH principle in treating acute myelocytic leukemia could elevate the clinical efficacy, which is of great value in clinical practice.
