A total of 900 children aged 3, 6, and 12 were examined. The findings evidence a lowered rate of salivary secretion and salivary levels of Ca and P, as well as a lower solubility of enamel for Ca and P in the children born fifth-eight. The incidence of dental hypoplasia and caries in these children was higher than in those born second in the family. Pregnancy aggravations (anemia, gestosis, etc.) in women who had had multiple deliveries and frequent diseases of their infants are the factors conducive to the reduction of dental resistance to caries and hypoplasia. The children born after multiple deliveries of their mothers should be referred to a risk group, and they should be observed by dentists and pediatricians since infancy. In regions with low fluorine levels in potable water antenatal caries prevention with fluorine preparations should be carried out. The program of comprehensive prevention of dental diseases should comprise both medical and social aspects.

125 placentas of women with many (5-17) deliveries and 100 control placentas (with 1-2 deliveries) were studied morphologically. It is shown that placentas of women with 1-2 deliveries retain their structure, compensatory reactions are most active in the central part of the placenta. After 5-9 deliveries hemodynamic disturbances are observed, disorganization processes are less pronounced, the level of compensatory-adaptive processes increases. Hemodynamic disturbances and structural disorganization are observed after 10-17 deliveries with pronounced compensatory processes in the peripheral parts of the placenta. Dissociated disturbance of the villi maturation are revealed after numerous deliveries.

To evaluate further the chemopreventive role of motherwort (Leonurus sibiricus L; MW) in lesions of the mammary gland and uterus of GR/A mice, the effects on these lesions of the adsorbed (MW1) and unadsorbed (MW2) fractions of MW separated by ion-exchange resins were studied. The incidence of palpable mammary tumours was suppressed and their growth was retarded by both MW1 and MW2, between whose effects no apparent difference was seen. However, neither of them showed effects on pregnancy-dependent mammary tumours (PDMT), mammary hyperplastic alveolar nodules (HAN) or uterine adenomyosis, whereas MW promoted PDMT and inhibited HAN and adenomyosis. All these findings indicate the importance of the synergistic action of several components, specified and unspecified, for the full manifestation of the effects of Chinese medicine.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: evaluate biological and medical characteristics of the grand multipara and her offspring in the neonatal period. TYPE OF STUDY: comparative and retrospective. SITE: Hospital of the Jundiai School of Medicine. PATIENTS: study group--134 grand multiparas; control group--100 primiparas. All patients were admitted to the Franco da Rocha Hospital, the maternity school of the Jundiai School of Medicine. INTERVENTION: analytical study. MEASURES AND RESULTS: hypertension, haemorrhage, twins, premature labor, pelvic location, and anemia were the complications seen in group 1. Cesarean section was indicated in the presence of a prior cesarean section, and fetal distress was the indication followed in group 2. Post partum damage to soft tissue was more prevalent in group 1. Premature labor and perinatal mortality were more frequent in group 1. CONCLUSION: The authors conclude that GMP were women with a high risk and, thus, they suggest adequate antenatal assistance as an important measure to decrease perinatal and maternal mortality.
