Preliminary development of a scale to measure attitudes regarding the importance of role modeling in physical activity and fitness behaviors among Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance professionals.

This paper presents a new 16-item scale designed to measure attitudes regarding the importance of role modeling in physical activity and fitness behaviors among Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance professionals. The measure was reviewed for face validity by a panel of experts and preliminary analyses gave as Cronbach alpha of .95 and split-half reliability of .97 for 22 graduate students.

Apoptosis - when the cells begin to dance.

We present a 24-hour time-lapse videosequence of in vitro behavior of Hep-2 cells treated with 10 m g/ml Etoposide, a topoisomerase II inhibitor. The cell behavior was recorded by a Mitsubishi video recorder, HS-S5600. In the presented sequence, we show the typical cell rounding accompanied by formation of numerous pseudopodia and rapid rhythmical contractions, so called membrane blebbing known as "dance of death".

Survey of the effects of aerobic dance on the lower extremity in aerobic instructors.

The rate of aerobic dance injuries has been high for two decades. To determine the types of lower-extremity injuries to aerobic instructors, a questionnaire was sent to 18 fitness centers in the Sydney, Australia, metropolitan area requesting information on the number and types of injuries, frequency of activity levels, footwear worn, and treatments sought. The reported rate of injury was 77%. The leg was the most common site of injury, reported by 52.9% of respondents, followed by the foot and ankle (32.8%), and the knee (20%). These figures are comparable to previous studies. Further investigation is warranted into causes and preventive measures, and information on the kinetics and kinematics of the lower extremity may increase understanding of the incidence of lower-extremity injuries to aerobic instructors and participants.

Ghost Dancing the Grand Canyon. Southern Paiute Rock Art, Ceremony, and Cultural Landscapes.

Combining rock art studies with ethnohistory, contemporary ethnographic analysis, and the interpretations of people who share the cultural traditions being studied, this paper documents a rock art site in Kanab Creek Canyon that appears to have been the location of a Ghost Dance ceremony performed by Southern Paiute and perhaps Hualapai people in the late 1800s. Using the site as a point of departure, it focuses on the way in which synergistic associations among place, artifact, resources, events, and historic and contemporary Indian people contribute to the construction of a contextual cultural landscape.

Dancing girl flap: a new flap suitable for web release.

To create a deep web, a flap must be designed to have a high elongation effect in one direction along the mid-lateral line of the finger and also to have a shortening effect in the other direction, crossing at a right angle to the mid-lateral line. The dancing girl flap is a modification of a four-flap Z-plasty with two additional Z-plasties. It has a high elongation effect in one direction (>550%) and a shortening effect in the other direction at a right angle (<33%), creating a deep, U-shaped surface. This new flap can be used to release severe scar contracture with a web, and is most suitable for incomplete syndactyly with webs as high as the proximal interphalangeal joint.

[Eau de mille-fleurs which made Kings' cat dance].

King Louis XV had a cat and some of his courtiers forced it to dance using eau de mille-fleurs (thousand flowers water). This name was given both to cow urine and to the distilled water obtained from cow dung. In this case, the medicine used was George Bate's eau de mille-fleurs, which contained alcohol.

[Childhood dancing eye syndrome in occult neuroblastoma].

The case of a two year-old boy is described with dancing eyes syndrome (DES) together with ganglioneuroblastoma. Surgical removal of the tumour and ACTH therapy resulted in rapid improvement, and an almost symptome-free condition. The literature is reviewed. Need of vigorous search for an occult neuroblastoma in DES is pointed out, since the early diagnosis and tumour's surgery can significantly improve the outcome.

[Safety is a dance. Training and information on prevention and safety in construction].

The construction site seems a place of fragmentation and of continuous resettings of operations and plannings, attentions particular and attention to the "final product", relations and deliveries, of interests and of cures. The construction site is prepared true in different spaces and times intermittent: space and times that define unknown contexts and new relations also in presence of operations (relatively) standardized. Around these critical joints--to the good ability to recompose and to pass the deliveries (acquaintances, data, duties...)--it's played the issues of product's quality, the job and those of the emergency. A formative horizon is always in game when they open organizational experiences and of complex job that is introduced with elements of oneness, and when operations are demanded recurrent of construction of acquaintances, remittances to point of times and operations, logons of attentions, activity and various techniques. The interaction of single operators with the context, the redesign itself of the same context, render active and responsible the relation with the companions of job (of the own enterprise and of the others), they make an experience of continuous Coformation, of government of the relations and construction of comunicative pattern. To feel "dancing part" is one action and knowledge modality not only moved from cognitive and logical elements, but also emotional. It is ability to learn to trust itself and to being reliable, without to think about to hold under control the manners, the times, the outcomes of that it is gone making.

Myoclonic encephalopathy of infants or "dancing eyes syndrome". Report of 7 cases with long-term follow-up and review of the literature (cases with and without neuroblastoma).

We describe 7 children with myoclonic encephalopathy of infants (MEI). MEI is a clinical entity characterized by an acute or subacute onset of polymyoclonia, cerebellar ataxia and opsoclonus ("dancing eyes"). It occurs either spontaneously, following an infectiuos illness or in association with an occult neuroblastoma. It is likely that immunological factors play a role in the pathogenesis. Steroid therapy resulted in rapid dramatic improvement of the neurological symptoms in 4 cases. However, this initial response did not correlate with the eventual outcome. We reviewed the literature to compare 45 reported cases of MEI associated with a neuroblastoma with 48 children without such a tumor to identify possible differences in clinical presentation, response to steroid medication and long-term prognosis of the neurological syndrome. In this respect we found no differences. Impairment of motor, verbal or intellectual performance were reported in at least half the cases. Although an immediate and marked response to steroids occurs in many cases of both groups, it remains unclear whether the long-term outcome is favourably influenced by this medication. The two-year-survival rate (90%) in the neuroblastoma group and the percentage of mediastinal localisation of the tumor (49%) are much higher compared with neuroblastomas without MEI. The reasons for these remarkable differences are not known. Diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic implications justify the separation of MEI from the more common and benign syndrome known as acute cerebellar ataxia of childhood.
