The gold ion modified TiO2 was prepared by means of sol-gel whereas gold deposited TiO2 was prepared by means of photo-reduction. The physical properties were influenced significantly by the presence of gold ion or gold. The enhanced photo-activity of gold modified TiO2 was quantified in terms of methylene blue degradation. The presence of gold ion in TiO2 lattices or gold on TiO2 surface enhanced their photo-activity. The optimum molar content of gold ion doping and gold deposition all was 0.5%. The first-order rates constants of gold modified TiO2 was more than that of pure TiO2, and decreased by increasing the content of gold ion and gold when their contents were more than 0.5%. Gold ion doped in TiO2 lattices was more effective to enhance the photo-activity than gold on TiO2 surface. Moreover, the relationship between physical properties, chemical properties and photo-activity has been discussed.
There are five resonance scattering peaks at 400, 470, 510, 800 and 940 nm for aqueous CoFe2O4 nanoparticles. It is a nonlinear scattering medium. When excited wavelength is at 330 nm, there are a Rayleigh scattering peak at 330 nm, a 1/2 fraction frequency peak at 660 nm and a 1/3 fraction frequency peak at 990 nm. It exhibits a strongest double frequency peak at 400 nm and a Rayleigh scattering peak at 800 nm as the excited wavelength is at 800 nm. The double frequency peak and the 1/2 fraction frequency peak have similar scattering property as the Rayleigh scattering peak. A new concept including gray particle and white particle has been proposed, and applied to analysis of the resonance scattering spectra of CoFe2O4 nanoparticle system.

Dechlorination of many kinds of chlorinated hydrocarbons including trichloromethane (CF), tetrachloromethane (CT), 1, 1,1-trichloroethane (1, 1, 1-TCA), 1, 1, 2, 2-tetrachloroethane (1, 1, 2, 2-TeCA), hexachloroethane (HCA), trichloroethylene (TCE), perchloroethylene (PCE) in water by Fe and Ag/Fe were investigated. Results show that the existence of Ag on Fe can enhance the dechlorination rate of chlorinated hydrocarbons. When the surface area concentration of iron is 150 m2 x L(-1), the dechlorination rate constant of CF, CT, 1, 1, 1-TCA, 1, 1, 2, 2-TeCA, HCA are 0.084 h(-1), 2.358 h(-1), 0.417 h(-1), 0.215 h(-1), 1.098 h(-1) by single Fe0, in this condition, no dechlorination of TCE and PCE during 10h, while the dechlorination rate constant of CF, CT, 1, 1, 1-TCA, 1, 1, 2, 2-TeCA, HCA, TCE, PCE are up to 1.850 h(-1), 9.504 h(-1), 1.624 h(-1), 1.778 h(-1), 2.842 h(-1), 0.463 h(-1), 1.251 h(-1) by Ag/Fe. The dechlorination rate constant of CF can increase by the factor of 20. The reaction pathways of chlorinated hydrocarbons with Fe and Ag/Fe were mainly including hydrogenolysis, reductive elimination and dehydrochlorination. The hydrogenolysis is the main reaction pathway for CF, TCE and PCE. The dechlorination pathway of 1, 1, 1-TCA are both hydrogenolysis and dehydrochlorination. Reductive beta elimination to form DCE is the dominant reaction pathway of 1, 1, 2, 2-TeCA, and HCA is via reductive beta elimination to form PCE firstly, then via hydrogenolysis to DCE.
Reaction of [(HBpz(3))RhCl(2)(PPh(3))] (Hpz = pyrazole) with silver salts AgA (A = BF(4), NO(3), SbF(6)) affords the unexpected heterotrinuclear compounds [[(HBpz(3))Rh(PPh(3))(mu-Cl)(2)](2)Ag]A (A = BF(4) (1), NO(3) (2), SbF(6) (3)). The compounds have been fully characterized by IR, (1)H, (31)P[(1)H], and (13)C[(1)H] NMR spectroscopy and FAB(+) mass spectrometry. The solid structure of compound 1 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The cation consists of two (HBpz(3))RhCl(2)(PPh(3)) units bonded to a silver atom through two double mu-Cl bridges in an unusual distorted square-planar arrangement.
After measuring the tearing pressure of bubbles, the remaining marginal fissures (unavoidable with silver-tin amalgams) were completely eliminated by cauterizing cavities with an activated copper suspension. The effect is based on the activated copper forming voluminous basic Cu compounds. This procedure gives the silver-tin amalgam the bactericidal characteristics of a copper amalgam but essentially higher marginal strength. As expected, the teeth were not discolored. Measurement of mercury vapor showed a distinct decrease in the release of mercury vapor in the direction of the cavity.

Transcutaneous blood gas monitoring is a non-invasive measurement technique for obtaining fast and relatively accurate responses to determine the respiratory conditions of patients. In this investigation, a screen-printed, disposable, transcutaneous oxygen sensor based on the working principle of amperometry, incorporates an integral heating element to enhance transcutaneous diffusion of blood gases typically at 44 degrees C. A Clark cell configuration is employed with gold working and counter electrodes and a silver/silver chloride reference electrode. Two different types of electrolytes namely potassium nitrate gel and polyelectrolyte (Nafion) have been studied under laboratory test conditions. A fully computer-controlled gas testing rig has been constructed to automate the varying of oxygen levels. Linear relationships have been established with an averaged sensitivity level of 0.029 microA/mmHg. In addition, a brief pilot clinical trial involving a fully grown human subject has been carried out alongside a commercial transcutaneous blood gas analyser. The investigations have shown that although the measured signals are weaker than those obtained from the laboratory test, the thick film sensor displays a repeatable and linear relationship when correlating with the commercial system. This study has greatly contributed towards the understanding for the suitability of the materials in achieving a viable, low-cost biomedical sensor.
