[The correction of the imbalance in the proteinase-inhibitor system of patients with protracted pneumonia with the enterosorbent polifepan].

The evidence obtained by the authors indicates that enterosorbent polyphepan corrects unbalance in the proteinase-inhibitory system of bronchial lavage from patients with lingering pneumonia and endobronchitis. Clinical symptoms improved also. A long-term (18 days) intermittent course (0.3 g/kg 4 days with 3-day intervals) is tolerated satisfactorily, produces no side effects (no colon dysfunction), retains normal hemoglobin values, total protein, enhances antiproteinase activity. As a result of the treatment hospital stay for the above patients reduced noticeably.

[Use of enterosgel in middle-aged and aged patients with medium-severity burns].

The comparative dynamics of intoxication and natural humoral organism resistance indexes in elderly and senile patients with burn disease of middle degree severity while application of generally used therapy and incorporating in treatment complex the enterosgel preparation prescribed since 24 hours after injury occurrence was studied. Under the enterosgel influence the intoxication syndrome intensity has been markedly decreased, what promoted the skin loss restoration, favourable burn disease course, mortality reduction, and the shortening of patients hospital stay.

[The blood pro- and antioxidant status in patients with chronic glomerulonephritis and disordered kidney function undergoing treatment with peroral sorbents].

It was found that there is unbalance between accumulation of lipid peroxidation (LPO) products and antioxidant potential in blood plasma and red cells from chronic glomerulonephritis patients with renal dysfunction. The unbalance cannot be corrected by standard conservative therapy. Oral sorbents result in normalization of the plasma abnormalities, but a long-term intake of coal depletes antioxidant defense which is likely to occur because of low plasma tocopherol levels. Vitamin E deficiency aggravates LPO adverse effects. It is recommended to combine long-term course of enterosorbents with parenteral antioxidant drugs.

[An experimental study of the efficacy of enterosorbents in salmonellosis].

The effectiveness of enterosorbents (polymethylsiloxane used as enterosgel and activated charcoal) has been studied in experiments on white rats infected with low virulent Salmonella typhimurium strain N 79. As shown in this study, the use of sorbents normalizes the morphofunctional characteristics of the epithelium of the small intestine and decreases the degree of Salmonella colonization of the parietal layer in the lumen of the small intestine, causing the destruction of some adsorbed bacteria.

[The clinical efficacy of Vuglesorb enterosorbent in diabetic patients].

Carbonic fibrous enterosorbent "Vuglesorb" used as a part of complex anti-diabetic treatment contributes to normalization of metabolism, promotes liquidation of ketoacidosis and principal morbid manifestations. Alongside with this, glycaemia and fructosamine blood level come to the norm. Marked anti-atherogenic effect was also observed. The drug is recommended for the treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus.

[The microbiological aspects of using enterosorbents in acute intestinal infections].

We observed 60 patients with acute Flexner's dysentery and salmonellosis. Complex treatment included enterosorbents; enterosgel, activated carbon and polyfepan. The results showed that co-administration of enterosgel as compared to that of activated carbon and polyfepan resulted in more vigorous elimination of pathogens. In patients with acute dysentery enterosgel when used at the background of nitroflurane therapy potentiated the latter. Enterosorbents improved also body resistance in enteric infections.

[Enterosorbent with immobilized trimethylaminoethanol chloride. I. Hypolipidemic properties].

Hypolipidemic properties of the synthesized enterosorbent, water soluble polymer containing covalently immobilized trimethylamine ethanol chloride, were studied. Content of cholesterol in blood was decreased by 29% and accumulation of cholesterol in liver tissue--by 22% after oral administration of the enterosorbent at a dose of 250 mg/kg into rats with hypercholesterolemia. Cholestyramine exhibited the similar effect only at a dose of 2.5 g/kg. Except for the hypocholesterolemic effect, the enterosorbent altered also the lipoprotein spectrum in rat blood serum.

[Bile-secreting function of the liver in patients with chronic alcoholism and ways of correcting it].

The examinations showed the differences in bile secretion and biochemical composition of bile in patients with chronic alcoholism II and III stages (respectively 1 and 2 groups of patients). The patients of group 1 have hypotonic gall-bladder with normal or in some cases increased speed of bile secretion with low contents of cholic acid, cholesterol and bilirubin. A type of bile secretion in patients group 2 is hypotonic-hypokinetic with patterns of bile stagnation. Treatment of patients of group 1 by cholenzyme and patients of group 2 by enterosorbent cholysorb promoted normalisation of intestinal circulation of bile components. Cholenzyme is remedy of compensation therapy and cholisorb allows to remove the bile stagnation.

[The sorption of human and animal rotaviruses by Enterosgel].

Adsorptive activity of enterosgel has been studied as applied to different strains of rotaviruses of man and animals. Optimal amounts of the sorbent and pH values of the reaction medium at which rotaviruses were most efficiently sorbed from the virus-containing liquid were determined experimentally.

[A new sorbent for the treatment of intestinal infections].

A new inorganic sorbent is proposed endowed with high adsorption-chemical activity towards microorganisms. Animal studies showed that the preparation "Evirhip" is superior to coal-based sorbents (KAY and CKN) and polymethilsiloxan (PMS) towards pathogenic microorganisms, PMS having relatively higher adhesive activity towards Salmonellas than coal-based sorbents.

[The stabilizing effect of enterosgel on the structural bases of membrane digestion and absorption in the small intestine in severe thermal skin burns].

Enterosgel effect on morphofunctional indices of the small intestine has been ascertained in experiments on animals, histochemical, electron-microscopic and morphometric methods being used. Enterosorbent in the dose of 0.3 g/kg body weight was injected orally to the guinea-pigs for 14 days. The results of the investigations prove the severe burn traumas to result in sufficient structural changes in the small intestine wall which causes impairment of membranous digestion processes and absorption of nutrients. It is to be noted that the developing burn disease results in the increase of changes severity and reaches the highest values at the stage of septicotoxemia. The enterosorbent assessed positively affects morphofunctional values of the small intestine. The enterosorbent does not enhance conventional development of the pathologic process but considerably decreases its manifestation. The enterosgel promotes the improvement of membranous digestion and absorption in the small intestine, increasing alkaline phosphatase action and rising the number of endocellular vesicles in epitheliocytes having brush margins.

[The effect of the SKN charcoal enterosorbent on the clinico-laboratory indices of patients with chronic circulatory failure].

A total of 85 patients presenting with chronic stage II A-II B circulatory insufficiency were studied to find out whether it is possible to combine cardiac glycosides (digoxin and strophanthin) under their parenteral administration with peroral course intake of the enterosorbent SKN as treatment of ischemic heart disease. Combination of cardiac glycosides with SKN was found to make for enhancement of efficiency of cardiotonic therapy, with the presentation of the dyspeptic syndrome getting more attenuated, cardiac arrhythmias becoming less frequent, hypercholesterinemia, hyperbetalipoproteidemia less apparent, cardiohemodynamics and central hemodynamics improved, ATP concentration in blood erythrocytes increased.
