[Efficacy of sorption therapy in patients with cicatricial esophageal stenosis].

We examined 110 patients treated conservatively for cicatricial esophageal stenosis including expansion on the string. The patients were divided into three groups: controls (n = 35), receiving adjuvant SUMS-1 (n = 38) and given adjuvant enterosgel (n = 37). According to electron microscopy, enterosorbents make esophageal mucosa denser by decreasing interstitial spaces as a result of microcirculatory improvement and reduction of edema. Enterosorbents elevate total protein and sugar in the blood.

[The correction of pancreatic enzyme secretion depending on the properties of the duodenal contents].

Substrates both specific and unspecific for pancreatic enzymes abolish and modify the inhibition of pancreatic enzymes secretion induced by their intraduodenal administration. Enterosorbents and gastric mucus, depending on the strength of their sorption properties, abolish or decrease the inhibition of secretion of pancreatic enzymes induced by intraduodenal administration of pancreatic enzymes. The complicated mechanism of correction of pancreatic enzymes secretion seems to depend on duodenal chyme properties.

[Enterosorbent SKN in the combined rehabilitative treatment of patients who have had a myocardial infarct].

A study of 34 patients with 2-3 months history of myocardial infarction revealed that 10-day course of treatment with SKN enterosorbent resulted in normalization of lipid peroxidation and several indices of lipid metabolism. These changes were in a part of the patients accompanied by an increase of tolerance to physical load and reduced requirement of the myocardium in oxygen.

[Efficiency of enterosorbents and detoxication mechanisms in immature rats with simulated hepatitis].

Different modifications of fibrous enterosorbent of the ACFM "Dnepr-MN" type exert a normalizing effect on the morphofunctional state of the liver of preadolescent rats with the model of toxic hepatitis. The distortion in the oxidation of lipids with peroxide and in the antioxidizing system protection removed, antitoxic liver function increases, which is confirmed by microsomal oxidation processes. A mediated effect of enterosorbents on the hepatocyte membrane structures is very significant for their detoxication effect.

[Enteral detoxication using polymethylsiloxane in the comprehensive treatment of septic forms of acute hematogenous osteomyelitis in newborn babies].

With regard for the role of bacterial and viral toxins and proteases in the pathogenesis of septic forms of acute hematogenous osteomyelitis, the use of enteral detoxication in the pediatric practice has been substantiated. The authors within 1988-1989, in 35 newborns with septic forms of acute hematogenous osteomyelitis used for detoxication the "Enterosgel" preparation. Control of the state of patients was accomplished by means of bacteriologic, biochemical and immunologic methods. A high detoxicative and antiinflammatory activity of the preparation and its harmlessness for the newborns have been proved.

[The factors that determine the manifestation of uremic poisoning during the development of chronic kidney failure].

To specify factors determining the intensity of uremic intoxication, 86 patients with chronic glomerulonephritis were examined without regard for exacerbation at different stages of chronic renal failure. Microcolumn gel chromatography was used to measure the content of medium-size molecules in the blood serum, urine, gastric and intestinal juice of the patients and 22 mongrel dogs before and after bilateral nephrectomy. It has been established that as the mass of acting nephrons decreases, the content of "medium-size" molecules in the blood serum and intestinal juice rises, being unchanged in gastric juice. At the same time the urinary clearance of the given group of substances declines. It is assumed that in stage I chronic renal failure, enhancement of the excretion of "medium-size" molecules in the proximal third of the small intestine is made for by hyperfiltration of intact nephrons. The appearance of the clinical symptomatology in stage II and III chronic renal failure is determined by intensification of absorption of uremic toxins by the intestine, associated with a fall of their urinary clearance. The necessity of early administration of the low-protein diet combined with enterosorbents is stressed.

[The comparative efficacy of a new hydrogel enterosorbent in the detoxification therapy of combined radiation-thermal lesions].

The detoxification effect of a new hydrogen sorbent Ikhant, synthesized on basis of piperidol homo- and copolymers, was studied on a model of combined radiation-thermal damage (CRTD). Wistar male rats were irradiated by a dose of 7.5 Gr and a IIIB degree burn was inflicted to 15% of their body surface. Intra-abdominal injection of Ikhant in the dose of 0.1 g per rat was given immediately and 24 hours after CRTD. Parallel studies of the effect of known carbon and silicon-containing sorbents on the development of toxemia in CRTD were conducted. High effectiveness of Ikhant as a measure of detoxification therapy in CRTD was established on grounds of the experimental data. By binding and discharging the toxins through the intestine, the new enterosorbent facilitates improvement of certain biochemical values of hepatic, function and, on the whole, reduces the level of the organism's autointoxication.

[Effectiveness of non-starch polysaccharide crylan in experimental hyperlipidemia].

In vitro experiments were shown that native ecologically pure non-starch polysaccharide crylan bind the bile acid. Crylan was found to decrease hyperlipidemia induced in rats by means of diet enriched with cholesterol and 6-methylthiouracil. This effect of crylan was more pronounced as compare with the action of native nonspecific enterosorbent polyfepan.

[Use of serotonin adipinate in acute oral poisoning].

Ninety-five patients with acute poisonings with psychotropic agents, barbiturates, amitriptyline, leponex, cholinolytics, and organophosphorus insecticides were treated by gastro-enteroadsorption making use of activated coal. In order to enhance propulsive function of the gastrointestinal tract, serotonin adipinate was repeatedly administered in a dose of 5 to 20 mg. Evacuation of the enteroadsorbent in the rectum was enhanced fivefold in comparison with a control group of similar patients administered traditional drugs (proserine, pituitrin, cerucal). As a result of such therapy, the toxicogenic phase of poisoning was shortened and mortality in the observed group reduced twofold in patients poisoned with psychotropic agents, 5.4 times in those with barbiturate poisoning, and 3.5 times in those with organophosphorus poisoning.

[A new sorbent used for preparing the intestines for a surgical intervention].

A new sorbent with a high sorptive capacity and antimicrobial properties against different species of microorganisms (aerobic and anaerobic) is suggested. Its effectiveness has been proved both in vitro and in vivo. The authors consider that the sorbent can be recommended for clinical trials with the aim of its use in preparation of the intestine for the operation.

[Changes of biochemical blood parameters under conditions of treatment with vaulen and polysorb enterosorbents].

Alteration of the biochemical blood indices has been studied in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and lupus erythematosus that were treated with vaulen (V) and polysorb (P) enterosorbents. It was determined that alanine aminotransferase activity grew and albumin, urea, uric acid levels enhanced after the V treatment. Glucose level and alanine-, asparagine aminotransferases activities decreased after the P treatment. It is necessary to take into consideration these results when choosing an enterosorbent for treatment of patients with the immunocomplex rheumatic diseases accompanied by the liver parenchyma lesion and hyperuricemia.

[Adsorption of bile acids and cholesterol from model solutions and biological liquids modified with charcoal enterosorbents].

Adsorption of some bile acids and cholesterol from simulated solutions and body fluids by medical carbons of different origin has been studied in order to elucidate the role of adsorption in cholesterol reduction as well as in prophylaxis and treatment of atherosclerosis by orally applied carbon adsorbents. Oxidized carbons modified by different metal cations were tested for the first time for their ability to correct the saline composition of body fluids.
