The trace metals analysis in synodontis membranaceus (head and tail), bottom sediments, Asystasia Gangetica and Platostoma Africanium were carried out using atomic absorption spectrometer of model Perkin Elmer 3110. Metals analysed were copper, nickel, mangenese, chromium, iron lead and cobalt. These metals were detected in the above samples. Vegetation samples concentration in copper, manganese, chromium, iron and cobalt were higher than those obtained in bottom sediments. The tail part of the fish contents of trace metals were also higher than those of the head. The results obtained in this work exceeded the results of water analysis carried out by Omoregha on the same river. Metals such as copper, nickel, manganese and chromium were below detection limit in the water from the same river. The bioaccumulation of these trace metals in these samples were traced to activities of Delta Glass Factory.

"This paper explores the residential property tax burdens faced by elderly homeowners in the United States. The results demonstrate that the use of annual data in income and property tax liabilities to calculate tax burdens overstates the regressivity of the property tax. The magnitude of the bias created by using annual income is determined by comparing tax burdens calculated from annual data with burdens calculated from tax liabilities and income data covering a 12-year period. The results indicate that while the residential property tax on the non-elderly is approximately proportional, the pattern of burdens on the elderly remains regressive."

This paper investigates whether government outreach programs improve accessibility to and increase recipiency of nonmandatory medical assistance. Using the Bradford, Malt, and Oates (1969) framework in which voters seek desired outcomes, I attempt to explain through an empirical model the variation in recipiency rates across Pennsylvania's 67 counties. The results indicate that outreach efforts have had a significant positive effect on recipiency. Computed elasticities also provide some insights into the relative effectiveness of various outreach efforts and the respective payoff from the two types of medical assistance programs investigated.
Mid-stream urine was randomly collected from 248 subjects in Adim. Blood and protein concentrations were determined semi-quantitatively using Combi-7 reagent strips. The urine samples were then processed and any ova of Schistosoma haematobium present were counted per 10 ml urine. Fresh stool samples were also randomly collected, processed and examined for S. masoni and other helminthic ova. The prevalence of S. haematobium in the area was 43.5% and this was found to be age-related but not sex-related. Mean egg count was 137.2 per 10 ml urine. Intense haematuria of 250 ery/microliters and proteinuria of 500 mg/dl accompanied the high egg counts. The stool examination showed no cases of Manson's schistosomiasis but polyparasitism with other intestinal helminths was common particularly among children under 10 years old. This is the first report of urinary schistosomiasis in this area and the high prevalence rate is consistent with the rice farming occupation of the natives of the area. The sensitive nature and the case of application of the reagent strips in determining heavy infections by measuring haematuria and proteinuria is once again confirmed.

The Cellognost indirect haemagglutination (IHA) test was compared with conventional techniques, namely, wet blood film examination, stained thin and thick films, animal inoculation and the microhaematocrit centrifugation, for detecting sleeping sickness cases. Sixty-four out of 245 serum samples collected from suspected and some diagnosed cases of the disease were positive by the Cellognost screening test, while only three cases were detected by stained thin film or microhaematocrit centrifugation. Of the 64 cases 45 strongly positive samples were subjected to quantitative assay. Twenty-five of these had anti-Trypanosoma gambiense antibody titres above 1:20 representing active infection in the population. This represented 10.2% of the total sample, and strongly suggested the persistence of the disease in the population.
