In this work there is a comparison between the different perceptions that a child can get from the dental instruments. The perception of dental instruments influences in a determinative way during dental attention. The sample consisted in the selection of 250 children whose ages ranges from 0 to 5 years. It was determined that age and experience influence in the perception of the objects as well as the different dental instruments used as variables.
Dental anxiety is a common problem. Different tests have been developed to measure the nature and the severity of dental anxiety or phobia. These tests can help to identify highly anxious patients who need special dental care. In this article, the dental anxiety tests useful in The Netherlands are reviewed.

Radiopacity in dental plastic materials is desirable. Currently, only radiopaque composite restorative materials and one temporary crown material are commercially available. Developments in incorporating radiopacity in other dental polymeric materials should be encouraged. Also, research should be conducted to quantify and standardize radiopacity both in materials and their clinical utilization. No requirement of radiopacity is currently included in any ANSI/ADA Specification applicable to dental plastic materials. However, standard test methods (ASTM Standard F640-79) have been established for radiopacity of plastics for medical use. The Council on Dental Materials, Instruments, and Equipment recommends that appropriate subcommittees of the American National Standards Committee MD156 develop, as quickly as possible, requirements and appropriate test methods to be placed in future revisions of standards covering plastics in dentistry.

Potentiodynamic anodic polarization, SEM, and energy dispersive microanalysis techniques were used to determine electrochemical aggressiveness of disinfecting and sterilizing solutions on carbide and stainless steel burs. The importance of galvanic cell formation in carbide burs caused by mixed metal coupling was examined. The following conclusions were reached. 1. Anodic polarization methods are an effective means for discriminating among the relative corrosiveness of sterilizing and disinfecting agents on dental instruments, particularly dental burs. 2. The relative degree of corrosiveness on stainless steel burs shows Omni II and Omnicide solutions the best, Sterall and Sporicidin solutions the poorest, and Glutarex solution intermediate. Omnicide and Glutarex solutions show the least degree of corrosiveness on the carbide burs. 3. SEM analysis of ground, polished, and treated surfaces shows corrosion deposition over the soldered joint of the carbide burs. The stainless steel shank is a cathodic component of a three-way galvanic cell, whereas the silver soldered joint is an anodic component.

The reliability of a paralleling instrument for dental radiographs was retrospectively evaluated in the course of a 6-month clinical study. The angular variation between successive exposures was precisely quantified. Ninety-one percent of the angular variations were below a 1.4 degree threshold, but some paired images were found unsuitable for quantitative analysis. A mathematic procedure to assess the global angular projection error of any similar coupled x-ray cone-film holder device is proposed. This mathematic procedure should be routinely used to check superimposability of serial radiographs before density quantification or subtraction.
