[Children or profession: there is no alternative. The effects of child care leave provisions on women in the labor force in Austria].

"The author presents results of a study investigating the effects of maternity and child care leave on women's participation in the labour force in Austria. The data cited show that maternity legislation so far has not significantly reduced the risk of unemployment for women. The unemployment rate for women on maternity and child care leave is about four times as high as the average for actively employed women aged 15-44." (SUMMARY IN ENG)

[Developments in the labor force participation rate of mothers].

"This article deals with the analysis of recent developments in labour participation by mothers [in the Netherlands].... The results of the analysis show a strong period effect, although the rate of change is declining. Further, young women who have their first child at the ages 20-24 have a significantly lower labour participation rate compared with older women. The educational level has a strong influence on the labour participation rate...." (SUMMARY IN ENG)

[The capitalist development of regions and labor force mobility in Quebec, from 1966 to 1976].

"In this paper the author presents a study of the spatial mobility of the Quebec population between 1966 and 1976, in the light of regional capitalist development. Based on an empirical operationalization of the concepts of mobility and development, the author demonstrates that Quebec presents a very irregular distribution of its poles of development over its territory, and that the mobility of the work force is in the image of this distribution. A few regions within the Montreal metropolitan area have attained a relatively evolved state of capitalist development and consequently are able to attract within their limits a large majority of migrants moving inside of or toward Quebec. In contrast, it can be observed that the majority of the regions in Quebec may be qualified as 'underdeveloped', and that their net mobility figures are negative." (SUMMARY IN ENG AND SPA)

[The foreign labor force in the Federal Republic of Germany in the period following World War II].

"This work [analyzes] the presence of foreign workers in the Federal Republic of Germany during the past 25 years. The causes of this phenomenon are discussed from the German point of view. This work also studies the growth of the foreign population, from the 1960s to our day, according to ethnic background, age composition, [region, sex, and profession]. The work ends with a critical analysis of the present migration policy of the Federal Republic of Germany, which, paradoxically, offers financial inducements for the social integration of the foreigners as well as for their repatriation." Erb's palsy causation: iatrogenic or resulting from labor forces?

To determine whether there is direct evidence that Erb's palsy is caused by clinician-applied excessive lateral traction on the fetal head and neck, a literature review was performed. Both the medical literature outlining the maternal forces generated from uterine contractions and maternal pushing and limited reports on clinician-applied forces were examined. Research involving clinician-applied force measurements during actual deliveries has the potential for increasing our understanding of the mechanism of the injury. However, studies to date have involved only 29 deliveries and did not include measurement of vertical or maternally generated forces. During the past 15 years, studies have provided considerable indirect evidence that maternal propulsive forces are responsible for the injury leading to Erb's palsy.
