Induction of ovulation and pregnancy with HU-FSH (Metrodin) in women with polycystic ovarian disease: summary of clinical experience.

Ten infertile patients with polycystic ovaries, who failed to conceive with clomiphene citrate, were treated with human urinary follicle stimulating hormone. In the same group of subjects, three cycles of treatment were performed to induce ovulation and pregnancy. Ovulation occurred in sixteen cycles out of eighteen. Eight pregnancies were obtained; three ended in abortions, one was an extra-uterine pregnancy and four resulted in normal deliveries. No cases of real hyperstimulation were observed.

Combined use of clomiphene and intranasal luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone for induction of ovulation in chronically anovulatory women.

Combined therapy with clomiphene and intranasal luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) was used to induce ovulation in eight chronically anovulatory patients under treatment for infertility. Clomiphene, 100 mg daily, was given from the 5th to the 9th day of the cycle. Synthetic LHRH was administered intranasally in different dosages from day 11 to day 14, in an attempt to induce late follicular development and ovulation. Five of the eight patients ovulated, and three conceived. The success achieved with combined clomiphene and intranasal LHRH administration suggests a therapeutic potential in the management of anovulatory infertility.

[Induction of ovulation by means of synthetic LH-RH following unsuccessful stimulation with clomide].

Synthetic LH-RH was used to induce ovulation and pregnancy in 6 women with suspected hypothalamic anovulation. The women had been previously treated with Clomid, but according to indirect evidence this drug either failed to induce ovulation or the women had insufficient luteal phase. After treatment with LH-RH one pregnancy occurred and in 3 more cases indirect evidence indicated that ovulation had occurred.

Isolated hypogonadotropic hypogonadism: induction of ovulation with exogenous gonadotropins.

Six patients with all of the clinical and laboratory characteristics of isolated hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (bihormonal gonadotropin deficiency) were treated with human menopausal gonadotropins (hMG, Pergonal) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). Of a total of 37 courses of treatment administered, there was evidence of ovulation in 32 (29%). The first four subjects had a total of six pregnancies in 13 treatment cycles. In the remaining two subjects, there were abnormalities in the seminal fluid of both husbands and, as a consequence, only one patient conceived. The average dose and duration of hMG therapy was 3310 IU (44 ampules), administered for 13 days. A wide range of hCG dosage was used to induce ovulation, but three subjects conceived following 5000 IU of hCG on 2 successive days. None of our subjects developed any evidence of the hyperstimulation syndrome, and there was only one instance of twin birth. Serial determinations of hLH performed during hMG therapy were lower than those noted during the normal follicular phase. In contrast, hFSH levels were in the normal follicular phase range. the high success rate in these subjects indicates that the prognosis for inducing ovulation in patients with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism is good.

[Evaluation of environmental factors on the fertility of heifers].

The investigations had the aim to find out the environmental influences upon the fertility performance of 8100 heifers in a big heifers farm. The different reproductive parameters were evaluated by the help of biostatistical methods. The evaluation of the different influences showed no effect in the relation of fertility and nutrition and fertility and seasonality. The check up by the help of the regression analysis and the analysis of variance informed about significant influences by the number of animals per group, by the keeping conditions and by the induction of ovulation. The induction of ovulation by GnRH is able to terminize the time of ovulation. Therefore it is possible to concretisize the insemination time followed by an increasing conception rate.
