[Conversation contents in person centered conversation groups and their relationship with process variables in non-clients].

UNLABELLED: 90 persons of different professions and ages (18 to 85 years old) took part in a total of 9 person-centered encounter groups of 2 1/2 days each. The groups were completely tape-recorded (163 hours) and rated by experts into 7 categories of "contents-of-talking". These categories were correlated with process-variables (talking behaviour and individual problems of the participants). MAIN RESULTS: For 26% of the total time of these groups the participants talked about their problems about interpersonal relations. After these groups the participants stated that they had experienced relief in their dissatisfaction with own behaviour and emotional problems. They experienced this relief although they had talked relatively little about these problems.

Independent nonprofessionals in the community: a case history analysis of a human relations program.

For eight years a group of nonprofessional human relations trainers conducted a community-based Adult-Youth T-Group Program in a suburban community under the auspices of the Board of Education. Their history provides the material for this case analysis, which will focus on two sets of issues. One set of issues surrounds the fact that these group leaders were "independent nonprofessionals": trained but noncredentialed persons performing functions usually reserved for professionals (or performed under professional supervision) and performing them outside of institutional and professional boundaries. A second set of issues, only partially related to the first, surrounds the organizational dilemmas and social-political conflict which beset this team and the program which they conducted.

The solo woman in a professional peer group.

The role of the lone woman was studied in six small groups--three T-groups and three work-groups--each containing one woman. All the women became deviants, isolates, or low status regular members of their groups. Reasons for this finding are discussed, and strategies are suggested whereby a woman may avoid depression if she finds herself in a similar setting.
