[Experience with the reflexotherapy of diskogenic pain syndromes].

The article presents the results of examination of 304 patients with vertebral osteochondrosis and diskogenic pain who have been subjected to multiple-modality treatment (226 of them had various neurosurgical interventions) including acupuncture and drug therapy. Favourable therapeutic effect was achieved in 72% of the cases. Seventy patients were followed up. The authors present recommendations on the use of acupuncture in practical neurosurgery for the treatment of diskogenic pain.

[Restoration of immunologic indices following reflexotherapy in the combination treatment of radiation-induced edema of the upper limbs].

A study was made of the effect of combined treatment (routine drug therapy, massage, application of DMSO) alone and in combination with acupuncture and laser puncture on a degree of secondary (radiation) edema and immunological indices in 36 patients treated for breast cancer 2-15 years ago. These methods were shown to decrease effectively a degree of edema by 22-37%. The highest effect was achieved using laser puncture against a background of the main treatment. All types of combined modality treatment promoted the return of the patients' immunological status to normal (an increase in low and a decrease in high values). The most effective recovery was noted in the lymphocyte count, the ratio of helpers (inductors and suppressors) killers, and lymphocyte blast transformation reaction to mitogens.

[Changes in central and periferal hemodynamics in patients with hypertensive conditions treated by reflexotherapy].

The results of an echocardiographic study of central hemodynamics and a rheovasographic study of vascular tonicity under the effect of reflex therapy in patients with essential hypertension (EH), stages IB-IIA, and those with neurocirculatory dystonia (NCD) associated with the hypertensive syndrome are reported. Initially, patients with NCD and EH, stage IB, showed hyperkinetic circulation, and those with EH, stage IIA, had hypokinetic circulation. The EH patients also exhibited elevated peripheral vascular tone. Minute volume of the heart was reduced in response to treatment in patients with NCD and EH, stage IB, and increased in those with EH, stage IIA in the presence of depressed BP. Peripheral vascular tone decreased in EH patients. Therefore, the two functional tests demonstrated the possibility of reflex control of hemodynamic disorders in hypertensive patients, with eukinetic circulation restored irrespective of their original nature.

[Reflexotherapy in neuralgias of the trigeminal nerve].

Acupuncture was used in 82 patients with trigeminal neuralgila. In 17 patients trigeminal neuralgia was predominantly of the central and in 65 of the peripheral genesis. Selection of points for acupuncture was based on the findings about electrical conductivity of symmetrical acupuncture points on the patient's face. The study has shown that the method of acupuncture in patients with trigeminal neuralgia should be used differentially. It is effective only in patients with peripheral trigeminal neuralgia.
