This year the library of the Vereniging Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Geneeskunde (Society of the Dutch Journal of Medicine) has reached the age of go. The idea was born in 1900 when the editor-in-chief M.Straub proposed starting a library for the Journal. This was rejected by the members of the Society, but fourteen years later, in 1914, when the new editor-in-chief G.A. van Rijnberk made a similar proposal, it was accepted. His long-term as editor (1913-1946) would prove to be a guarantee for the acquisition of a large collection of books, both antique and contemporary. The collection reflects the history of medicine, notably in The Netherlands, but also in a wider sense. Over the years, several catalogues of the collection have been published, and this year has seen the completion of an electronic catalogue which is available on the Internet (www.ntvg.nl). The acquisition and restoration of books have been re-started in the past five years and a fellowship for the study of the existing collection of books has been instituted.
The Vereniging Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Geneeskunde (Society of the Dutch Journal of Medicine) has completed an on-line catalogue of more than 12,000 titels of historic books (www.ntvg.nl).

This article provides an examination of the Latin complete editions of Galen, from 1490 to 1528, which are not all pointed out and described by Richard Durling in his census published in 1961, in the Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes. They present the first large circulation of Galen in the Renassaince, which was in Latin, not in Greek, as well as the constitution of the Galenic corpus. At first it was formed by Medieval translations. The humanistic translations, often of the same known texts, were printed from the edition by Pietro Antonio Rustico in 1515-16; they occupy a separate volume in both the editions of 1528, and the two supplementary volumes of the Giuntine of 1528, printed in 1531 and 1533.

The paper introduces a catalog of symptoms to promote in the field of endogenous psychoses differentiated diagnosis, at the same time constituting a prognosis. Symptoms should be more minutely differentiated than is customary in psychiatric questionnaires. Manic-depressive disorders and purely phasal psychoses are distinguished solely in the clinical evaluation. Thus benign cycloid psychoses can be distinguished from malignant unsystematic schizophrenia.

Properties of human erythrocyte membrane proteins are widely studied recently. Comprehensive data were obtained on two main membrane proteins responsible for essential membrane functions. Besides, high performance two-dimensional electrophoresis and a number of other procedures enabled to detect more than 100 minor proteins in the biomembranes. The latest advances in studies of proteins and their coding genes allowed to compile a catalogue for erythrocyte membrane proteins, which is of importance for investigations in the field of membrane molecular biology. Structural organization of the catalogue for human erythrocyte membrane proteins is discussed.
