Chondrodysplasia punctata (CDP) is associated with a variety of genetic and nongenetic conditions. We report a girl with CDP, complex congenital cardiac disease, central nervous system (CNS) anomalies, and clinical findings that resemble those of the sibs described by Toriello et al. [1993, Am J Med Genet 47:797-799]. The cardiac defects and CNS abnormalities reported are unique in the context of CDP and may serve to expand the phenotypic spectrum of the unique form of CDP described by Toriello et al. [1993].
A case is described in which coarctation of the aorta develops following coil occlusion of a patent ductus arteriosus with a single Gianturco coil. This finding has yet to be reported in children undergoing this procedure and demonstrates the possibility of its occurrence and brings into question the need for and the duration of antibiotic prophylaxis following coil deployment.
Infants with congenital heart disease frequently experience recurrent atelectasis, in many cases associated with anomalous branching of the bronchial tree. The bridging bronchus has been well described and has been associated with both left-sided obstructive lesions and a sling-like left pulmonary artery. We describe a similar, though distinct airway anomaly, the "braided bronchus," associated with a bridging bronchus in a child with coarctation of the aorta and recurrent atelectasis. Methods used to delineate the "braided bronchus" are described.
