A family of planar gold RF microcoils were fabricated using microlithography on a gallium arsenide substrate. The microcoils were used in 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy experiments at 300 MHz (7.05 T). These new microcoils are a key component in the design of integrated MR coils and amplifiers for NMR microspectroscopy.
Techniques are described for the design of shielded gradient coils for superconducting MRI systems. These design methods are suited for constructing the most efficient gradient coil that meets a specified homogeneity requirement. Tradeoffs in coil design of efficiency with coil size and gap size are discussed. Residual eddy currents from coils constructed with a finite number of wires are calculated and give guidelines for the construction of efficient, whole-body gradient coils.
This report describes a simple electronic device employing a piezoelectric element which serves as a sensitive detector of motion. The device is useful as a monitor of respiratory motion for nuclear magnetic resonance animal experiments in vivo. It can also provide a trigger pulse for respiratory gating experiments.
