Stereoselectivity of nitrile oxide cycloadditions to chiral allylic fluorides: experiment and theory.

The cycloadditions of nitrile oxides with new and previously studied allylic fluorides were examined. The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions were also investigated theoretically with density functional theory (B3LYP) based transition-state modelling. The predictions provided reasonable agreement with experiment, indicating that both steric and electronic effects have important influences on the stereoselectivities of these reactions.

Fluorous synthesis of disubstituted pyrimidines.

[reaction: see text] The fluorous synthesis of disubstituted pyrimidines is carried out by attaching 2,4-dichloro-6-methylpyrimidine with 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecanethiol. The tagged substrate is substituted with 3-(trifluoromethyl)pyrazole followed by thioether oxidation and tag displacement with amines or thiols. The fluorous chain serves as a phase tag for intermediate and product purification over FluoroFlash SPE cartridges.

2-Deoxy-2-iodo-beta-glucopyranosyl fluorides: mild and highly stereoselective glycosyl donors for the synthesis of 2-deoxy-beta-glycosides from beta-hydroxy ketones.

2-Deoxy-2-iodo-beta-glucopyranosyl fluoride 14 is a highly stereoselective glucopyranosyl donor that may be activated under mild conditions. Application of this new glycosyl donor to the glycosidation reactions of a variety of acceptors including beta-hydroxy ketones affords beta-glycosides with high efficiency and stereoselectivity.
