[Immunothermistor unit].

Abstract

An immunotermistor has been devised for studying immunological reactions. It includes a probe pack, a measuring pack and an automatic potentiometer. The adoption of analogue integral microcircuits enabled the authors to make a unit with high reliability, small size and mass. The error in assessing immunological reaction parameters does not exceed 5%.

The design of biplanar, shielded, minimum energy, or minimum power pulsed B0 coils.

By extending the formalism previously developed for the design of unshielded, biplanar gradient coils, shielded biplanar B0 coils optimized for homogeneity and either minimum energy or minimum power may be designed. We present results from an integrated approach to shielded biplanar coil design, the results of which are also applicable to gradient coils, enabling the design of shielded coils with a concomitant decrease in total inductance of the coil. Length constraints are also included in the integrated minimization procedure. Results from a preliminary design indicate that high-homogeneity, low-impedance, well-shielded coils result from this design approach.

Network thermodynamics revisited.

Modeling provides a bridge between the natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, and the like) and the axiomatic sciences (mathematics and statistics). Inductively-derived descriptive models map observations of physical processes into mathematical descriptions that can be treated as axioms (e.g., the various laws of physics). A synthetic model combines descriptive models of several physical processes with a structural model (representing the interactions of those processes) for the purpose of deducing or predicting the consequences of interactions. When applied together with elementary thermodynamic principles, circuit theory provides an excellent framework for synthetic modeling.
