CT quality control.

Abstract

A daily quality control (QC) protocol for a GE 9800 computed tomography (CT) scanner is described which quantitatively assesses system noise, an index of high contrast resolution, and the reproducibility of CT numbers for four phantom materials. The mean values and variation for each QC parameter under normal operating conditions have been determined, and their use in assessing CT scanner performance is discussed.

Rapid quality control of 99Tcm-sestamibi.

The thin layer chromatographic (TLC) method for determining the radiochemical purity of 99Tcm-sestamibi suggested by the manufacturer of the kit is slow and inconvenient. In this study a more rapid reversed phase chromatography (Sep-Pak) technique is compared with the TLC method for measurement of the radiochemical purity of 99Tcm-sestamibi. The levels of free 99Tcm-pertechnetate in 99Tcm-sestamibi were accurately determined using the Sep-Pak technique. However, due to binding of variable amounts of reduced-hydrolysed unbound 99Tcm to the chromatography cartridge, the Sep-Pak method overestimated the radiochemical purity of the radiopharmaceutical by approximately 3%. In practice, this overestimation is not important and the Sep-Pak technique can be used as a rapid method of determining radiochemical purity of 99Tcm-sestamibi.

An alternative approach to contrast-detail testing of X-ray image intensifier systems.

The difficulties of making the results of threshold contrast-detail diameter tests on X-ray image intensifier systems consistent with published performance standards are discussed. The current approach to contrast-detail testing is described and an alternative method intended to give greater consistency for all image intensifier input field diameters proposed. The current and alternative test conditions are compared on two image intensifier systems. The results obtained show that the contrast-detail curves for image intensifier systems with a wide range of input field diameters can be effectively normalized to be directly comparable to a common reference standard by applying the proposed alternative test conditions. The implications of this result on the interpretation of the contrast-detail test are discussed.
