Vicarious malpractice liability.

Abstract

A physician may be responsible not only for his negligent acts but those of his employees, associated colleagues, hospital personnel, house staff, and even covering physicians. Sources of liability are identified and concepts of imputed negligence, agency, and "Captain of the Ship" doctrines are discussed. Recognition of a potential hazard is the key to preventing liability arising from such relationships.
