[Density estimation based model matching method for redshift determination].

Abstract

The present paper proposes a model matching method based on density estimation for redshift determination, in whichthe problem of redshift determination is translated into the problem of searching for the point of maximum density within a data set. At first, the mean shift-based method for auto-extraction of spectral lines is used to get feature spectrallines. Secondly, according tothe redshift formula, the authors use the feature wavelength array and the spectral template to get a data set. Finally, the authors findthe point of maximum density within the data set, then the average of the data in epsilon-neighbor of the point is regarded as the redshift estimation. The information of feature wavelength and spectral line type is used in this method so that it can deal with every kind of spectra. Experiments show that our method is stable and the correct identification rate is high.

[Cochrane reviews compared with industry-supported and other meta-analyses of the same drugs--secondary publication].

24 Cochrane reviews were compared with other, closely matched, meta-analyses of the same drugs. The quality score was highest for Cochrane reviews (7 vs. 2, p < 0.01). Of 8 industry-supported reviews, 7 with conclusions all recommended the experimental drug without reservations, compared with none of the Cochrane reviews (p = 0.02) although the estimated treatment effect was similar on average (p = 0.64). Industry-supported reviews were less transparent, had few reservations about methodological limitations of the included trials, and should be read with caution.

[Stimulation with 0,3 mg recombinant human thyrotropin (rhTSH) increases the effect of 131I therapy in patients with nontoxic nodular goiter. A prospective, randomized, double-blind trial--secondary publication].

In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 57 patients with nontoxic nodular goiter were stimulated with either 0.3 mg recombinant human thyrotropin (rhTSH) or placebo before radioactive iodine 131I therapy. After one year the goiter reduction had improved by 35% compared to conventional 131I therapy. The difference was most pronounced in patients with a large goiter. Adverse effects, including development of permanent hypothyroidism, were significantly more frequent in the rhTSH group. Patient satisfaction was high and uninfluenced by the use of rhTSH.

[Physical activity and clustering of CVD risk factors--secondary publication].

This study aimed to derive guidelines on physical activity. We did a cross-sectional study of 1732 9-year-old and 15-year-old children. Objectively measured physical activity was associated to clustered CVD risk with an OR for the least active of 3.29 compared with the most active quintile. The time spent in moderate activity in children where risk was elevated was less than 116 min per day in 9-year-old and less than 88 min per day in 15-year-old children. Physical activity levels should be higher than the current international guidelines of at least 1 h per day to prevent clustering of CVD risk factors.
