[Humanization and nursing work].

Abstract

In this work we have as our objective to reflect on the theme of the 63rd. Annual Nursing Week "Humanization and Work: reason and meaning in Nursing". We discuss the relationship between humanization/work in nursing, differentiating the aspects related to the humanization of nursing work to those of the humanized work in nursing. The challenges of the process of humanization of assistance and of work relationships imply on the overcoming of the relevance given to the technical scientific competence, routine patterns which are crystallized, conventional models of management, corporativism of the different professional categories in favor of interdependence and the complementarity in health actions; construction of an utopia of the humanization as collective process which can be reached and implemented.

Exploring being: an international dialogue.

Nurses and other health professionals are in a privileged position in that they are called to be with people and their families at some of the most important moments in persons' lives. In order to better prepare nurses for this awesome and challenging responsibility, a session of the 11th International Human Becoming Conference held in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, on November 6, 2004, reflected on famous quotations on Being and related Being to nursing practice. The human becoming school of thought is unique in its willingness to face the important but difficult question, what is Being?

[Nursing care at the intensive care unit (ICU): going beyond objectivity].

Nowadays, nursing is sustained by different paradigms, among which we highlight those related to totality and simultaneity, since these embody the main conceptual models and specific theories for nursing practice. This study aims to provide elements that will lead to reflections about the possibility of founding health practices at ICUs on the Humanistic Theory of Paterson and Zderad, which is part of the simultaneity paradigm. This theory supports dialogue-based care, which is translated as the genuine encounter between and among caregivers, patients and their families. Thus, ICU care will go beyond the I-that relation, to achieve the I-you relation, that is, the subjectiveness of human beings.
