Laparoscopic sterilization without electrocautery.

Abstract

Stimulated by the increasing concern over the complications of the use of electrocautery in laparoscopic sterilization, the author has developed a method of tubal sterilization by laparoscopy without the use of electrocautery. The procedure is described in detail, together with some hints on technique and mention of possibilities for future improvements.

Lingual hamartoma in an infant: CT and MR imaging.

Lingual hamartoma is a rare tongue mass, primarily diagnosed in childhood. In most cases in the literature, the masses were surgically removed without preoperative imaging. There are only 3 cases reported in the clinical literature that describe preoperative imaging findings. We report the clinical and imaging findings in an infant with lingual hamartoma and review the literature.

Use of a rectal snare to remove a hypopharyngeal haemangioma.

We describe in this case report a new technique for treatment of hypopharyngeal haemangioma, using the surgical diathermy snare. The snare was easily introduced through the direct laryngoscope, without any difficulties. The procedure was simple, rapid and involved minimal bleeding. We also discuss the histological types of haemangioma, clinical picture, radiological findings and other modalities of treatment.
