This article describes a direct procedure for the expeditious fabrication of provisional restorations for extensive fixed prosthodontic applications. Customary indirect or indirect-direct approaches require extensive clinical time as well as laboratory support for their successful application. Provided that the necessary preoperative steps are followed precisely, this treatment method allows for excellent clinical results while being less time consuming.
Cast position on a survey table is determined with an inclinometer, allowing tilt to be measured in 1-degree increments in the frontal and sagittal planes. With this device, cast reorientation is simplified and tilt modifications can be accomplished accurately because of direct visualization of tilt measurements in the 2 planes.
This clinical report describes the fabrication of a sectioned mandibular complete denture for a patient with severe microstomia. Dovetails were created in the denture base to orient and secure the prosthesis.
