[Cephalic nociception].

Abstract

Nociceptive processing in the trigeminal system parallels that of the spinal system in most significant features of anatomic, physiologic and neuropharmacological organization and function. In instances in which specificities occur, most arise from both similarities between visceral pain and headache and existence of the trigeminovascular system. These similarities are given special emphasis in this review.
