[Effect of prodigiosin on the lysozyme activity in melioidosis].

Decreased lysozyme activity was observed under conditions of melioidosis intoxication in rats induced by intraperitoneal administration of an acetone-killed 3-day culture of the bacterial mass of the melioidosis causative agent. When prodigiozan was administered 48 hours by the 4th day which was indicative of prodigiozan activation of the factors of the microbial non-specific resistance.

[Effect of cholerogen on tissue culture cells].

A study was made of various series of cholerogen on the cultures of human continuous cells of normal (F1, Rh) and tumour nature (HeLa). Cholerogen proved to produce a marked toxic action on the cultures of F1, Rh and HeLa cells causing a reduction of the number of living cells, depression of mitotic activity, a reduction of the intensity of staining on the sum total protein and RNA, a reduction of the activity in the cells of acid phosphatase and succinic dehydrogenase, and also a reduction of production of protein-polysaccharide layer. Different cholerogens produced a different toxic action on the cells of the same type.

[Choleragenic intoxication in hydrobionts].

Experiments were conducted on Rana temporaria in which cholerigenic intoxication was induced. Administration of high doses of choleragen caused in the epithelial cells of the small intestine of frogs structural-functional changes analogous to those observed in suckling rabbits used as a classic model for studying the mechanisms of cholerigenic intoxication.

[Experience with using leukocytic interferon with methacil in influenza in children].

For prophylaxis influenza in the infection foci under stationary conditions 213 children were treated with leucocytic interferon with metacyl and 192 children were observed as the control group. The drug was administered intranasally in a dose of 0.25 ml once a day. The observations showed that among the children treated prophylactically with interferon and metacyl the number of influenza cases decreased 2.17 times a compared to the control group. In contact children who were taken ill with influenza the severety of the infection and the number of complications decreased. Under the stationary conditions in the children treated with interferon and metacyl the numbers of the wave-like infection and complications decreased 2.5 and 2.9 times respectively as compared to the children not treated with the drugs. Addition of metacyl to leucocytal interferon provided its administration once a day instead of 3-4 times a day.

[Immunochemical analysis of the cytoplasmic fraction of a cholera-like vibrion].

A soluble cytoplasm and ribosomal fraction which were later subjected to gel-filtration were obtained by disintegration and subsequent differential centrifugation from a cholera-like strain. Immunodiffusion and immunoelectrophoresis in gel showed that the ribosomal fraction contained up to 6 high-molecular antigenic components (including an O-antigen and the antigens identical to those of a cholerogen), and others; its low-molecular components (molecular weight 1.7-10-4 and lower) were inactive in immunodiffusion and immunoelectrophoresis. The soluble fraction of the cytoplasm contained up to 5 antigenic components, two of which represented thermolabile antigens of protein nature, and the rest, apparently--of carbohydrate. The soluble portion of the cytoplasm displayed antigens identical to the cholerogen of a cholera vibrio; low molecular components of the soluble cytoplasm (mol. weight--1.7-10-4 and lower) possessed no antigenic activity. The data obtained pointed to the possible intracellular formation of the cholera vibrio toxin.
