[Anxiety structure and catecholamine parameters in patients with rosacea, alopecia areata and lichen ruber planus].

90 patients suffering from selected dermatoses (rosacea, alopecia areata, lichen planus) underwent psychological tests of examination with special regard to verification of their anxiety structures. Urinalysis of catechol amine levels was simultaneously carried out in these patients. The test results proved a marked correlation between psychological factors and the activity of the adrenergic system. High level of activity, emotional unstableness, as well as tendencies to neurotic activities are connected with increased secretion of adrenaline and decreased secretion of noradrenaline++ and dopamine. The lability of catechol amine secretion (statistically significant variation above or below the physiological standard) is the cause of functional disorders.

[Chronic pancreatitis as a predisposing factor in the development of pancreatic cancer. Histological and histochemical studies].

The frequency of hyperplasia, squamous metaplasia and dysplasia were examined in glandular tissue from 20 pancreatic specimens resected due to chronic inflammation. Hyperplasia of the epithelium of large pancreatic ducts with formation of papillomatous outgrowths was present in 6 cases. Epithelial hyperplasia of small ducts occurred in 10 cases. Dysplasia and squamous metaplasia of the epithelium of ducts, hypertrophy, hyperplasia and dysplasia of acinar cells were found in 7 cases. In 10 pancreatic specimens hypertrophy and hyperplasia of cells of the islets of Langerhans were noted. Increased histochemical reactions to dehydrogenases and proteinic thiol groups were present in epithelial cells which demonstrated hypertrophy, hyperplasia, metaplasia or dysplasia. Diminution of the PAS reaction to neutral glycoproteins and intensification of the reaction to acid glycoproteins were also noted in the ductal epithelium. The results obtained suggest that chronic inflammation of the pancreas should be clinically regarded as predisposing to the development of pancreatic cancer.

[Anxiety as a state and anxiety as a personality trait in patients with diseases of the abdominal organs before and following operation].

63 persons were examined by means of psychologic methods: 32 patients with surgical diseases of the abdomen and 30 healthy people. The results show that an increase of the level of anxiety as an emotional state is mostly caused by the somatic disease and situations connected with it. After operation, a statistically relevant regression of the results will occur in this scale. In the preoperative period the whole population of patients is characterized by an emotional lack of balance, viz. tendency to autoaggression and neurotic anxiety. In the post-operative period there was no decrease in all factors constituting the hypothetical sources of anxiety. In studies of surgical patients it is important to differentiate anxiety as a state and anxiety as a personal feature.
