[The rehabilitation of breast cancer patients].

Immediate and long-term anatomic, functional, psychologic and social results of radical treatment of breast cancer were assessed in 2 groups of patients who had either undergone or not undergone rehabilitation. The study showed that purposeful rehabilitative treatment and organizational measures assured a decrease in invalidism rate in working age patients from 75 to 43.6% and better quality of life.

Adult

[Carcinoids].

The clinical features, diagnosis, treatment and long-term results in 24 patients with carcinoids of the different organs were studied. Benign carcinoid was revealed in 2, that with a potential malignancy--in 2, a malignant one--in 20 patients. In 6 patients, the combination of carcinoid and cancer of different location was observed. A radical operation was performed in 17 patients. Nine patients died, of them 3--from spreading of cancer of different location.

Adolescent

[Injuries of the pancreas].

Trauma of the pancreas was studied in 48 patients. It has a typical mechanisms and is characterized by intensity of the exerted force. Due to the last named circumstance, extensive retroperitoneal hematomas, ruptures of the parenchymatous organs, ligaments, veins, and large arteries often occur A severe condition of the patients with fall of arterial pressure and the development of shock is characteristic. It is difficult to establish the diagnosis of trauma of the pancreas before the operation. The most frequent complication is traumatic pancreatitis which is often attended by the development of cysts, fistulas, and peritonitis. The surgeon's tactics is determined by the character of the injury and is individual in each patient.

Adolescent

[Wounds and intraoperative injuries of the inferior vena cava].

An analysis of 1054 acts of medicolegal examinations of corpses of people who died from injuries of major vessels has been made. It was established that wounds of the v. c. i. took place in 0.7% of the cases. The experience with the treatment of 9 patients with thrust-cut wounds of v. c. i. and 14 patients with iatrogenic trauma of v. c. i. is described. Methods of help in the prehospital period, specific operative interventions, methods of postoperative management of patients with injuries of v. c. i. are described.

[Changes of the leukocytic index of intoxication in pancreatitis].

When studying the leucocytic index of intoxication (LII) in 94 pancreatitis cases the highest values of it were found in case of destructive forms of the disease. In patients with edematous and chronic pancreatitis LII values were smaller. No correlation between LII and urine diastase was found. LII permits to assess impartially the degree of intoxication in various forms of pancreatitis.
