[Experience of vascular and bile duct reconstruction in 40 cases of orthotopic liver transplantation].

OBJECTIVE: To summarize the vascular and bile duct reconstruction experience in 40 cases of orthotopic liver transplantation in the southwest hepatobiliary surgery hospital. METHODS: The clinical data of 40 cases of liver transplantation were analyzed retrospectively from Jan. 1999 to Nov. 2001. RESULTS: Mortality rate of this group was 15.0%. Complications included: pulmonary infection (18 cases), MOSF (5 cases), intraperitoneal bleeding (4 cases), ARDS (8 cases), thrombus of hepatic artery (1 case), bile leakage (1 case), and cerebral hemorrhage (1 case). The longest survival time was 31 moths (1 case). There were 15 cases whose survival time was more than 1 year. CONCLUSIONS: The key point of success of liver transplantation relies on excellent vascular and bile duct reconstruction technique.

[Study on improvement of dissolution rate of water-honeyed pills of six herbs with rehmunnia by technique of super fine crushing].

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the affection of crushing technology on quality. The dissolution of Pills of Six Herbs with Rehmunnia prepared by different crushing technology was determined by taking the dissolution of Paeonol as test marker. METHOD: The Pills was prepared with the fine powder which was crushed by normal crusher or super fine crusher. The rotatory-basket method was used, and the cumulative dissolution percentage was determined by UV. RESULT: Statistics indicated there was a significant difference in dissolution parameter (T50) between super fine crushing powder Pills and normal fine-crushing powder Pills (P < 0.01), and there was a difference in dissolution of different batches of Pills of Six Herbs with Rehmunnia prepared by the normal crush technique (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The determination of dissolution of Pills of Six Herbs with Rehmunnia is necessary. In order to improve the quality of drugs, we should adopt the technique of super fine crushing in the preparation procedure.

The Rapid Identification of Protein Through Its Amino Acid Composition.

This paper described a method for the identification of protein through its composition. The basic idea is as follows: A database for lengths, compositions and molecular weights of all known proteins is easily derived from a protein sequence database and by comparing the composition, length and molecular weight of the protein in question with each array of data in the composition database, proteins with similar length, composition and molecular weight may be found; as such a tentative identification for the said protein may be made. In some cases, it can be perfectly accurate to predict the right protein(s) from the composition database. A computer program applying this method was developed and used to search for the compositions of human insulin precursor and other proteins. The results are good, which proves that it is a fast and economic way to identify a protein based on its amino acid composition.

Two-dimensional (2D) DNA crystals assembled from two DNA strands.

Sequence symmetry has been used to simplify the design of a DNA double-crossover (DX) molecule. The resulting DX molecule can self-assemble into two-dimensional (2D) crystalline arrays, but only requires two instead of otherwise four different DNA strands.
