[Protective effects of 15-methyl-prostaglandin F2 alpha on primary cultured rat hepatocyte against CCl4-induced injury].

The effect of 15-Mt-PGF2 alpha on CCl4-induced injury of primary cultured hepatocytes was studied. 15-Mt-PGF2 alpha treatment (2 mg/L) significantly decreased CCl4 (10 mmol/L)-induced damages of primary cultured rat heptocytes as indicated by decreases GPT and GOT leakage and LPO production. 15-Mt-PGF2 alpha significantly promoted 3H-uridine incorporation into RNA and [3H]-thymidine incorporation into DNA of the rat hepatocytes. Cytopathology study showed that 15-Mt-PGF2 alpha attenuated damages of mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum and ribosome caused by CCl4. 15-Mt-PGF2 alpha appeared to maintain the stability of rat hepatocytes by inhibiting lipid peroxidation. These results indicated that 15-Mt-PGF2 alpha has notable protective effect on primary cultured rat hepatocytes against CCl4-induced damage by reducing lipid peroxidation and promoting synthesis of RNA and DNA.

[Significance of p16 and C-myc expression in the laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma].

OBJECTIVE: To study the clinical significance of p16 and C-myc expression in the laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). METHOD: Immunohisto-chemical detection of p16 proteins and C-myc proteins, in 47 cases of LSCC and 6 cases of normal tissues from the larynx, were conducted in paraffin-embeded sections. RESULTS: No staining was found in 6 cases of normal tissue; The positive expression of p16 and C-myc proteins expression rates did not correlate with sex, age and position of the tumors (P > 0.05); but related to the staging and grade of LSCC (P < 0.05). The expression of C-myc proteins were higher in the case with lymph nodal metastasis than that without lymph nodal metastasis (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The expression of p16 and C-myc protein may play an important role in the development of LSCC, and may be a new indicator to assess the prognosis of LSCC.

[The antibacterial activity of cefmetazole and other antibiotics to 463 isolates].

We compared the in-vitro antibacterial activity of cefmetazole and other 4 antibiotics against clinical isolates. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of cefmetazole against 463 isolates was determined by standard (NCCLS) agar dilution testing, and compared with that of cefazolin, cefuroxime, cefotaxime and ceftazidime. The results showed that cefmetazole was the most effective in 5 antibiotics to indole (+)P. vulgaris and M. morganii (MIC(90) 8 mg/L), and cefmetazole had the same activity as cefotaxime (sensitive 82%-100%), but less activity than ceftazidime (sensitive 88%-100%) against E. coli, K. pneumoniae and P. morabilis. To oxacillin-sensitive staphylococci, cefmetazole was highly active, with the MIC 90 of 4 mg/L. Our results indicate that cefmetazole is highly active against Enterobacteriaceae and oxacillin-sensitive staphylococci.

[Injectable bioerodible polymer with 5-fluorouracil used in filtration surgery in rabbits].

OBJECTIVE: A prospective randomized and placebo-controlled study was performed to evaluate the effect and toxicity of injectable bioerodible polymer with 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) on the filtration surgery in rabbits. METHODS: Posterior lip sclerectomies were performed on both eyes of 23 rabbits. Injectable bioerodible polymer impregnated with 2.5% 5-Fu 10 mg was injected subconjunctivally in 16 eyes, and 2.5% 5-Fu 10 mg was injected subconjunctivally in 14 eyes every other day for three times in the first week and every two days for three times in the second week post-operatively. Another 16 eyes received the drug-free polymer after surgery and served as controls. RESULTS: The bleb in the eyes treated with drug-free polymer failed in the postoperative 7 days and the bleb in the eyes treated with 5-Fu injection failed in 20-30 days, while the bleb in the eyes treated with 5-Fu polymer remained successful throughout the experimental period. From 7 to 30 postoperative days, the rate of scleral fistula occlusion was 6.7% in the eyes treated with 5-Fu polymer, 41.7% in the eyes treated with 5-Fu injection and 100% in the eyes treated with drug-free polymer. Corneal epithelial defects appeared in 3 eyes treated with 5-Fu polymer, in 8 eyes treated with 5-Fu injection and in 2 eyes treated with drug-free polymer. CONCLUSION: Injectable bioerodible polymer with 5-Fu may significantly prevent bleb scarring and subsequent blockage of the filtering tract, enhance success rate of filtering surgery in rabbits and reduce the toxicity of 5-Fu. This drug delivery system has considerable value for clinical use.

[Long-term results in 31 patients on total hemispherectomy modified for infantile hemiplegic epilepsy].

To overcome long-term complications of hemispherectomy, We modified its operative method. The modified hemispherectomy was performed for 31 patients between 1985 and 1992. These patients were studied for 7 years after operation. The results showed total control of seizures in 28 children with chronic epilepsy (90%) or near-total control in the others. No deaths or delayed complications were noted but improvement in behavior and hemiplegia. CT and MRI showed marked shift of the remaining hemisphere. On brain-stem auditory evoked potentials, the latency of peak I was not variant (P > 0.05). The method makes the insulation of the subdural cavity from the ventricular system more reliable, and climates the pathological conditions.

[Quantitative analysis of cAMP and cGMP in the plasma, iris and aqueous humor in rabbits with high intraocular pressure].

OBJECTIVE: To study the relationship between the levels of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), cyclic guanosine monophos-phate (cGMP) in the plasma, iris and aqueous humor and high intraocular pressure in rabbits. METHODS: The quantitative tests of cAMP and cGMP from rabbits were carried out by radioimmunoassay technique. RESULTS: The results showed that there were 72.81 +/- 7.67, 141.08 +/- 16.70 and 28.40 +/- 0.49 of cAMP (nmol/L), and there were 10.37 +/- 6.15, 35.64 +/- 7.02 and 12.90 +/- 0.61 of cGMP (nmol/L) in the plasma, iris and aqueous humor respectively. The levels of cAMP were higher than those in the same samples from the animals as controls (P < 0.01), while the levels of cGMP were less than controls (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: High intraocular pressure may be significantly associated with the levels of cAMP and cGMP.

[Diuretic effect of liniaoling(KLP)].

Experimental results have shown that KLP taken orally helps promote the diuretic action of normal Wistar rats, decrease the urine volume of debilitated rats and increase the urine volume of BPH rats. It has also been shown that KLP(i.v.) can increase the urine volume of anesthetic rats and reduce the remnant urine. In addition, KLP can contract the smooth muscle of rats and rabbits.

[Distribution of leucine-enkephalin like immunoreactive nerve fibers in feline temporomandibular joint: an immunohistochemical PAP method].

In this paper, the immunohistochemical PAP method has been used for the investigation of the distribution of leucine-enkephalin (L-ENK) like immunoreactive fibers in feline temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The results demonstrated as follows: the TMJ capsule, anterior and posterior disc attachments all contained L-ENK immunoreactive nerve fibers which appeared largely as the fine plexi fibers. The density of the distribution of L-ENK positive nerve fibers was the highest in the subsynovium of TMJ capsule, and the plexi structures proceeding to the synovial membrane were observed. The density of the distribution in the lateral joint capsule was the same as the density of distribution in the anterior and posterior discs attachments. No L-ENK positive fibers were detected in the central portion of joint disc. These results indicate that there is the material basis of endogenous analgesic mechanism in TMJ and provide the neuroanatomical basis for exploring physiological functions such as analgesic, immunological and anti-inflammatory effects of ENK nerve fibers in TMJ.

[Analysis of frequency domain correlative cardiogram (FCG) in 151 healthy pilots].

Frequency domain correlative cardiogram (FCG) is a relatively new noninvasive method for diagnosis of coronary heart disease. However there has been little information about the application of FCG in pilots. To explore whether the FCG diagostic standards of normal people, can be applied to healthy pilots, 151 male pilots aged 22-47 (mean = 30 +/- 6 years) were examined with the HBD-II A instrument manufactured by Hong Kong WEX company. The results showed that the characteristics of FCG graph of the pilots were similar to that of the common healthy men. It indicates that the diagnostic standard of FCG for normal people can be used to pilots, so it might be useful in selection and real-time medical monitoring during ground training.

[Analysis of vectorcardiogram (VCG) in 150 healthy pilots].

150 healthy male pilots, aged 22-46 years (31 +/- 5) were examined with the HBD-II A instrument. The results showed that vectorcardiogram (VCG) parameters of pilots were within the normal value by clinical diagnosis standard of VCG, but some indexes of VCG appeared different from the normal people, these might be the characteristics of VCG of pilots. The present study provided some new parameters of VCG such as P loop. The results of this study may be used for pilots selection and real-time medical monitoring for pilots on ground training.

[Application of mean EMG to the evaluation of human workload during manual operation].

To evaluate human workload during manual operation, 9 subjects participated in the attitude maintaining experiment with simulated earth scenery as the display and a stick as the controller. Mean-rectified EMG was chosen as the index. Surface EMG was recorded in a couple of agonist and antagonist. Kinematics equation was simulated on a analog computer, and three difficulty of work were controlled by changing the amplifier's coefficients. 486 Computer was used to record the quantity of subject's operation and the data of Mean EMG from amplifier. Relevant software was compiled. The results showed that there was a linear relationship between mean-rectified EMG and difficulty of work. The effects of training on workload were also discussed. Mean EMG can be used as an index for evaluating human workload.

[Red blood cell as a carrier of Superoxide Dismutase].

In order to prolong the in vivo half-life of Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) to improve the blood compatibility and to treat tissue injuries caused by activated oxygen during ischemia and hypoxia, erythrocytes were used as SOD carrier. The entrapment of SOD into rabbit erythrocytes was successfully employed. It demonstrated in vitro experiment that SOD activity maintained a stable level in the first 8 hours, and these erythrocytes can be stored at 4 degrees C for one week without loss of activity. The SOD carrier erythrocytes might be useful in clinical and special environmental medicine.

[Simulation of a decoupling generalized predictive control algorithm for temperature-humidity system].

A decoupling generalized predictive control algorithm was presented in this paper. This algorithm was proposed to control the temperature-humidity system of a practical air-conditioning environmental chamber. By introducing absolute humidity as an intermediate variable, temperature and humidity of the system can be decoupled. Then the two decoupled systems are controlled by generalized predictive control (GPC) algorithm at different sample rates. Many simulation experiments demonstrated the effectiveness of the algorithm. Besides, decoupling of temperature and humidity will be extremely helpful to the application of GPC on the real system. This is also the effective method to control the temperature and humidity system.
