A case of aortic atresia associated with right aortic arch.

A case of aortic atresia associated with right aortic arch is described. This is the second case in the literature. The diagnosis of aortic atresia was made prior to death by right heart catheterization with angiocardiography and this was confirmed at autopsy. The necessity of an early and accurate diagnosis of this disease is discussed for providing more opportunity of surgical treatment.

[Effect of tone on perception of figures in children (author's transl)].

This experiment was designed to examine the effect of tone on the perception of figures in children, presenting a tone together with figures. On the basis of studies concerning sensory interaction, the factors producing perceptual changes of figures were also examined. It was found that the change of figure perception was caused by tones, not by suggestions nor by differences in pitch. Significant difference was obtained between the conditions with and without tones. The changes in color, shape, size, position and color shade were observed. As the extreme case of the inhibitional effect of color shades, the disappearance of figure perception was also observed. The results obtained in this experiment were discussed in relation to the sensory developmental study.

Goldenhar's syndrome associated with cardiac malformations.

A case of Goldenhar's syndrome associated with cardiac malformations such as single ventricle, atresia of pulmonary artery, and patent ductus arteriosus is described. The association of cardiac malformations with Goldenhar's syndrome is very rare and suggests that it is necessary to perform a careful clinical evaluation in this syndrome whether or not additional malformations may exist in visceral organs.

Nievergelt-Pearlman syndrome with impairment of hearing. Report of three cases in a family.

Three cases of the Nievergelt-Pearlman syndrome occurring in a family are presented. In addition to the major features of the syndrome (symphalangism, carpal fusion, atypical club foot with massive tarsal fusion, and congenital dislocation of the head of the radius), all three patients exhibited conductive deafness, which had not been recorded in previous reports. The clinical findings strongly suggested that the loss of hearing was due to fusion of the ossicles of the middle ear.

[Experimental study of schizophrenia I. Cognitive structure of emotionally expressed voices (author's transl)].

The purpose of this study was to examine the cognitive structure of the schizophrenic patients. Two, one word sentence, "father" and "mother", with 15 different emotional expressions were given by both male and female announcers as verbal stimuli. Stimuli were judged by 29 normal students and 22 schizophrenic patients on 5 monopolar rating scales. Using both d-index and factor analysis, 4 factors were found. With Factor 1 no difference between the normals and the patients was found. With Factor 2 a little difference was found between the two, and with Factor 3 a great difference was found. Factor 4 was responded only by the normals. Considering the hypothesis states there are 2 stages in the cognition, the schizophrenic character was found on the second stage of the process where the reinterpretation of the information was made.
