Tumor-associated antigen of spontaneous mammary tumor in rats.

The present study was undertaken to detect the spontaneous mammary tumor-associated antigen ( MTAA ), and to find the cross-reacting antigen in chemically-induced mammary tumor. The antisera against spontaneous mammary tumor were raised in the WAF1 rats of the same strain and tested for the detection of tumor-associated soluble antigen of mammary tumor induced by N-ethylnitrosourea (ENU) and N-butylnitrosourea ( BNU ). The MTAA was found in the extract of spontaneous mammary tumor by the double immunodiffusion test, while it was not found in the extract of normal and fetal tissues, hyperplastic mammary gland, spontaneous fibroadenoma, and chemically-induced mammary tumor. On the other hand, the MTAA was not detected in the other types of tumors induced by ENU or BNU , i.e. gastric cancer, intestinal tumor, brain tumor, kidney tumor, bladder tumor, hemangioma, rhabdomyosarcoma, or leukemia. The spontaneous MTAA could not be detected in the spontaneous mammary tumor of C3H mice or human breast cancer either. The MTAA was extracted effectively by 3 M KC1. Furthermore, the MTAA was found in the cytoplasm of continuous established mammary tumor cell line ( SpMT -1) by the immunofluorescence test.

[Clinical results and pharmacokinetics of 6059-S in the field of pediatrics (author's transl)].

6059-S, a new injectable oxacephem antibiotic, has been investigated to give following results. 1. Clinical results Twenty patients were administrated intravenously 20 approximately 124 mg/kg/day of 6059-S for 2 approximately 14 days. Clinical effect was excellent in 5 cases, good in 7, fair in 3, poor in 1, unknown in 3 and except in 1, and efficacy rate was 75%. Side effect was observed only 1 case of discomfort and chill of hand and foot immediately after intravenous injection and no adverse value in laboratory findings was seen. 2. Pharmacokinetics Blood level and urinary excretion of 6059-S single administration were measured in 4 patients with normal renal function and a patient with renal failure. Half life was 1.27 approximately 1.76 hours in 4 patients with normal function and 4.33 hours in a patient with renal failure. Urinary excretion was 43.4 approximately 50.9% up to 4 hours in 2 patients with normal renal function, and it was delayed to 1.0% up to 12.5 hours in a patient with renal failure.

Small cell carcinoma of the lung and its histological origin. Report of a case.

A rare lung cancer consisting in part of small cell carcinoma of intermediate cell type and in part of well-differentiated papillotubular adenocarcinoma is described. Alcian blue-PAS staining was observed in the cytoplasm of the small cell carcinoma cells; the Grimelius argyrophil reaction was also positive in the cytoplasm of these cells. Electron microscopy revealed neurosecretory granules in the cytoplasm. At autopsy, a small cell carcinoma of intermediate cell type was found with both squamous features and gland formation. The cellularity and histological pattern of this tumor suggested the existence of a transitional pattern between small cell carcinoma of intermediate cell type, squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. From the above findings, we think that small cell carcinoma including the intermediate cell type is derived from respiratory epithelial cells of endodermal origin with dedifferentiation of those cancer cells into neurosecretory cells.
