Primary aldosteronism aggravated during peripartum period.

Two cases are reported of a 30-year-old and of a 28-year-old Japanese women with primary aldosteronism in whom metabolic and blood pressure abnormalities were aggravated during peripartum period. The characteristic findings in 2 present cases are as follows; 1) lower blood pressure during pregnancy, 2) elevated blood pressure during peripartum period, and 3) after parturition, serum potassium decreased, and the blood pressure elevated. The reason why the hypertension and hypokalemia associated with primary aldosteronism were ameliorated during pregnancy was thought to be due to the increased secretion of progesterone. Furthermore, the rapid recurrence of symptoms, increase in blood pressure, and hypokalemia in the post-partum period could be related to elevated prolactin and decreased progesterone levels.

"Hypertrophy of the column of Bertin" in a could-be case of adolescent idiopathic hematuria.

A typical case of hypertrophy of the column of Bertin is first documented in Japan, which is characterized with the adolescence (13-year-old), intermittent gross hematuria, and the confirmation and recovery by the segmental resection. Emphasis is placed on the possibility of its concealment in so-called idiopathic hematuria, and the necessity of the recognition earlier among children with unknown hematuria. The term "hypertrophy of the column of Bertin" was proposed to be used unifyingly henceforce, because it most well describes the pathoanatomy.

Histological research concerning cryotonsillectomy in dogs.

Resistance to freezing can be considered in connective tissue, blood vessels, and also epithelium and mature lymphocytes, but the tonsils are highly receptive to freezing, and thus during the 2 min two-cycle freezing the tonsils were able to be removed sufficiently. In addition, the edema in the peripheral tissue reached its peak in 12 to 24 hrs, and during this period it can be thought that dyspnoe could easily be induced. Histologically as well, necrosis was apparent after 12 hrs, with the peak coming during the first 3 days, and it was difficult to discern necrotic areas after 7 days. Revitalization of the epithelium, thrombosis, and fibrosis were also apparent as the 7th day. At the same time, dilated and regenerated capillary vellels were apparent. On the 14th day, collagen fibrosis of the deep layer tissue was found, and as of the 24-day collagen fibrosis up to the level of the epithelium was observed.
