A study was carried out between November 1981 and April 1982 on the immunological effect of administering trivalent live, oral polio vaccine to 200 mature healthy neonates from Henan Province, China. The initial dose of vaccine was given at 3 days of age, and 2 months thereafter antibodies to poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3, respectively, were detected in 46.7%, 60.7% and 48.6% of the neonates; after the second dose, the levels were 86.9%, 95.3%, and 97.2%, with geometric mean titres of 1:106.2, 1:349.8, and 1:232.5. Almost 100% of neonates exhibited antibodies after the fourth dose of vaccine. Eighty-two percent of the neonates excreted poliovirus for at least a week after the initial dose of vaccine, and this increased to 99% after the second dose. Seroconversion at 4 months of age was similar to that of a group of controls who received their initial dose of vaccine at 2 months of age; however, immunization of neonates induced immunity to poliovirus at the earliest possible age.
It has been found that the effects of opiates and opioid peptides on RVD are of two types. Compounds of the first type such as Etor, Eton, fentanyl and prodine derivatives, Met- and Leu-Enk and DADL are biphasic in nature. At lower concentrations (10(-8)-10(-5) M) they have inhibitory effects and at higher concentrations (10(-5)-10(-4) M) they are excitatory. Compounds of the second type, such as Mor, benzomorphan derivates, Cyc and SKF and the antagonist Nx have virtually no or only weakly inhibitory effects but may antagonize the inhibitory effect produced by the first group of compounds at lower concentrations. MC belongs to the second type, but it cannot antagonize the inhibitory effect of beta-End. The results are discussed in terms of multiple receptors, the high and low affinity binding sites, and the interrelationship between receptors.
Labor was induced in a group of 200 women in 2nd trimester of pregnancy by crystal trichosanthia injected into the amniotic cavity. It was effective and the success rate was 99.5%. The average abortion inducing interval was 4.69 days porm 1.15 days. Blood loss was scanty during labor in 90.5% cases, being less than 100 ml. There was only 1 case suffering laceration of cervix. The side effects of crystal trichosanthin were dramatically reduced with the simultaneous use of betamethason intramuscularly for 3 successive days. Side effects were reduced because the drug was concentrated in the cavity and only a little was present in the blood stream and, what's more, the anti-allergic action of betamethason was effective. Trichosanthin is a kind of plant protein so it will possibly cause allergic reaction, which can induce the production of antibodies that will influence the effect of its reinjection.
