In Guatemala, an indirect hemagglutination (IHA) test for onchocerciasis, performed with a crude saline extract of Onchocerca volvulus and blood samples taken on filter paper, showed a high level of sensitivity and specificity. IHA titers of blood samples from the ear lobe taken on filter paper and of sera obtained by venipuncture showed a high correlation.

Chloroiodoquine has been implied in numerous cases of myeloneuropathy in Japan, while in other countries although equally frequently used, only a few cases have been reported after treatment with this drug. Studies on the effect of chloroiodoquine in mice of various inbred strains or from crossings between sensitive and insensitive strains demonstrated a genetic predisposition of sensitivity to chloroiodoquine.
The effect of cyclophosphamide (CY) on ovarian function was studied in patients with breast cancer receiving prolonged daily administration of this agent (100 mg/day) after radical surgery. Out of 18 premenopausal patients that received 8.4-39.9 g CY, 15 developed permanent amenorrhea. The average dose given before the onset of amenorrhea was 5.2 g in patients in their 40s and 9.3 in their 30s. Urinary estrogens and serum progesterone were measured weekly for approximately 6 months postoperatively in six patients receiving CY. After the onset of amenorrhea, the levels of both hormones ceased to show their normal cyclic changes and remained low persistently, meanwhile serum FSH and LH were markedly elevated. No ovarian follicle was histologically found in three amenorrheic patients who underwent therapeutic oophorectomy after CY therapy. These findings indicate that CY induced primary ovarian failure.
The binding of polyamines and magnesium to synthetic polynucleotides has been studied by gel filtration on a Sephadex G-50 column. Among the single-stranded polynucleotides examined [poly(A), poly(C), and poly(U)], polyamines were found to bind to poly(C) and poly(U) preferentially, while the binding of Mg2+ was greatest with poly(A). Spermine bound to poly(U) was displaced completely by NH4+ but incompletely by Mg2+, while Mg2+ bound to poly(A) was displaced completely be spermine but incompletely by NH4+. The optimal pH for the binding of spermine to poly(U) was found to be about 7.9, while Mg2+ could bind to poly(A) over a broad pH range (7.1--8.7).

Attempts were made to evaluate the EEG findings in 16 children and 12 adults with Moyamoya disease. (1) The children revealed specific findings such as hemispheric posterior slow (HP slow), centrotemporal slow (CT slow) and re-build-up after the end of hyperventilation. (2) HP slow was mainly observed in EEG examined within one year after the initial onset. In children in whom EEG was performed more than three years after the onset, chronic suppressive findings were found on EEG. (3) Buildup after the end of hyperventilation was revealed in almost all the children, which we called "Re-build-up". (4) No specific findings were verified on EEG in adult Moyamoya, beside slight abnormalities.

A case of papilloma of the gallbladder is reported. The gallbladder was associated with cholesterosis but not with stones. The causes of colicky pain in this case are discussed. Papillomas of the gallbladder exhibit no characteristic clinical picture; the symptoms are similar to those of any type of gallbladder disease. Papillomas of the gallbladder may be associated with malignant degeneration. Cholecystectomy is the treatment of choice.
