[Effects of TNBG on the proliferation and apoptosis of human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line QGY-7701].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects and mechanism of TNBG on the proliferation and apoptosis of human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line QGY-7701. METHODS: The 3H-TdR incorporation and MTT assay were used to test the effects of anti-proliferation and cytotoxicity respectively, the morphological changes of the cancer cells were examined under light and electron microscopes. The Flow cytometric analysis was performed to detect the cell cycle distribution and apoptosis. RESULTS: Marked anti- proliferation effect was observed after intervention of 2 microg/ml TNBG for 24 hours, and TNBG killed the cells in concentrition- and time-dependent manners. A lot of lipid droplets accumulated at the cytoplasm under light microscopy, and were confirmed by electron microscopy. Furthermore, the cells showed G2/M arrest and apoptosis. CONCLUSION: The above findings indicate that TNBG inhibits proliferation of tumor cells, induces apoptosis of tumor cells, and thus produces its antitumor effect.

Empirical study on mutual fund objective classification.

Mutual funds are usually classified on the basis of their objectives. If the activities of mutual funds are consistent with their stated objectives, investors may look at the latter as signals of their risks and incomes. This work analyzes mutual fund objective classification in China by statistical methods of distance analysis and discriminant analysis; and examines whether the stated investment objectives of mutual funds adequately represent their attributes to investors. That is, if mutual funds adhere to their stated objectives, attributes must be heterogeneous between investment objective groups and homogeneous within them. Our conclusion is to some degree, the group of optimized exponential funds is heterogeneous to other groups. As a whole, there exist no significant differences between different objective groups; and 50% of mutual funds are not consistent with their objective groups.

[Application of molecular adsorbents recirculating system in the treatment for liver failure of hepatitis B].

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of treatments with the molecular adsorbents recirculating system (MARS) on liver failure patients of severe hepatitis B, in order to seek a safe and effective therapeutic method which contribute to the improved survival rate for severe hepatitis patients. METHODS: 52 liver failure patients of severe hepatitis B were performed intermittent MARS therapy for 6 to 8 hours per time in addition to standard medical treatment. Parameters in blood chemical data were collected before and after every treatment and analyzed in comparison with those parameters from controlled groups by means of plasma exchange and standard medical therapy. RESULTS: MARS therapy achieved a remarkable improvement in clinical symptoms and physic signs, accompanied with a significant decrease in serum bilirubin, ammonia, urea nitrogen, fragrant amino acid, endotoxin, IL-6, and TNF-alpha levels (0.05); at the 72 hours bilirubin rebounding analysis. MARS treatments resulted in a significant decrease of bilirubin rebounding level in comparison with what PE did (0.01 ), though the bilirubin removal efficiency between two groups was not statistically significant. The overall survival rate of MARS therapy was 50% (26/52), which was better than that of standard medical therapy (40.5%, 17/42, P less than 0.05). CONCLUSION: The results indicated that MARS was a safe and promising technology in the field of liver support therapy. It might be associated with considerable improved survival rate for liver failure patients.
