[Efficacy and safety of acute-phase transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation for herpes zoster-related pain in middle-aged and elderly patients with comorbid depression and anxiety].

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) during the acute phase in middle-aged and elderly patients with herpes zoster (HZ) comorbid depressive and anxiety states. Methods: This was a randomized controlled trial. Forty middle-aged and elderly patients with acute-phase HZ who attended the Department of Dermatology at Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University, from June 2024 to June 2025 were enrolled and randomly assigned in a 1∶1 ratio using a random number table to receive either taVNS (n=20) or sham stimulation (n=20) for 5 consecutive days. Both groups received antiviral therapy and on-demand rescue analgesia. Pain, anxiety/depression, and sleep quality were evaluated using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), the 4-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-4), and the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), respectively. The primary outcome was the incidence of subacute pain at 30 days post-rash onset. Secondary outcomes included cumulative analgesic consumption at 1 and 2 weeks after treatment, the changes from baseline (Δ values) in PHQ-4 and ISI scores at 2 weeks, and the incidence of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) at 90 days post-rash onset. Results: In the taVNS group, 7 patients (35%) were female, with a mean age of (64.1±9.7) years; in the sham group, 10 patients (50%) were female, with a mean age of (61.5±8.5) years. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in baseline VAS, PHQ-4, or ISI scores (all P>0.05). The incidence of subacute pain was significantly lower in the taVNS group than in the sham group [5% (1/20) vs 35% (7/20), RD=-30.0% (95%CI:-52.1%--4.9%); RR=0.14 (95%CI: 0.02-1.06); P=0.044]. At 2 weeks after treatment, the Δ values of PHQ-4 and ISI in the taVNS group were significantly greater than those in the sham group. The proportion of patients taking Lofentadine and the cumulative Lofentadine consumption at weeks 1 and 2 were both lower in the taVNS group than in the sham group (all P<0.05). No serious adverse events occurred in either group, and the difference in PHN incidence between groups was not statistically significant (P>0.05). Conclusions: Acute-phase taVNS appears to be feasible and safe in middle-aged and elderly patients with HZ and comorbid depressive and anxiety, effectively reducing subacute pain and improving emotional and sleep outcomes.

Antimicrobial-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated from Australian wildlife admitted to a veterinary hospital.

Although antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing One Health concern, little is known about AMR in Staphylococcus aureus from Australian wildlife. This study investigated the occurrence, phenotypic AMR profiles, and genetic characteristics of S. aureus from six representative Australian wildlife species admitted to a wildlife hospital in Western Australia, including the western grey kangaroo (Macropus fuliginosus), quenda (Isoodon fusciventer), pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus), galah (Eolophus roseicapilla), shingleback skink (Tiliqua rugosa) and long-necked turtle (Chelodina colliei). Staphylococcus aureus was isolated from 11.7% (21/180, 95% CI: 7.4%-17.3%) of the animals on admission. Whole genome sequencing identified 13 multi-locus sequence types (STs) and various virulence factors, including the human-specific immune evasion cluster (IEC). Resistance to at least one antimicrobial class was observed in 63.6% of the isolates. The blaZ, erm(T), aac(6')-aph(2″), and tet(L) AMR genes were detected in 63.6%, 13.6%, 4.5%, and 4.5% of S. aureus, respectively. After 7 days of hospitalisation, S. aureus was isolated from 16.5% (16/97, 95% CI: 9.7%-25.4%) of the animals, including two methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) isolated from two pelicans. The two MRSA were identified as community-associated MRSA clones (mecA-positive ST1-IV and ST93-IV), suggesting direct or indirect transmission between humans and wildlife during hospitalisation may have occurred. This study highlighted Australian wildlife may be a potential reservoir for genetically diverse antimicrobial-resistant S. aureus. AMR surveillance including wildlife using a One Health approach may be required.

Pharmacogenetic analysis of paclitaxel transport and metabolism genes in breast cancer.

Paclitaxel is commonly used in the treatment of breast cancer. Variability in paclitaxel clearance may contribute to the unpredictability of clinical outcomes. We assessed genomic DNA from the plasma of 93 patients with high-risk primary or stage IV breast cancer, who received dose-intense paclitaxel, doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide. Eight polymorphisms in six genes associated with metabolism and transport of paclitaxel were analyzed using Pyrosequencing. We found no association between ABCB1, ABCG2, CYP1B1, CYP3A4, CYP3A5 and CYP2C8 genotypes and paclitaxel clearance. However, patients homozygous for the CYP1B1*3 allele had a significantly longer progression-free survival than patients with at least one Valine allele (P=0.037). This finding could reflect altered paclitaxel metabolism, however, the finding was independent of paclitaxel clearance. Alternatively, the role of CYP1B1 in estrogen metabolism may influence the risk of invasive or paclitaxel resistant breast cancer in patients carrying the CYP1B1*3 allele.

A conditionally replicative, Wnt/beta-catenin pathway-based adenovirus therapy for anaplastic thyroid cancer.

Thyroid cancer affects between 10,000 and 15,000 people per year in the US. Typically, this disease can be controlled with surgical resection and radioiodide treatment. However, resistance to these conventional therapies is observed in some patients, who develop intractable anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC), for which no effective therapies exist. Recently, a sizable fraction of undifferentiated or poorly differentiated thyroid cancers were shown to contain mutations in beta-catenin, an oncogenic protein involved in the etiology of cancers of many tissues. We developed a conditionally replicative adenovirus (named 'HILMI') which, by virtue of TCF response elements drives E1A and E1B expression, replicates specifically in cells with an active Wnt/beta-catenin pathway. We show that several thyroid cancer cell lines, derived from undifferentiated or anaplastic tissues and possessing an active Wnt/beta-catenin pathway, are susceptible to cell killing by HILMI. Furthermore, viral replication in ATC cells as xenograft tumors in nude mice was observed, and prolonged survival of mice with ATC tumors was observed following administration of the HILMI therapeutic vector. The results warrant further development of this therapeutic approach for ATC patients.

Upregulation of placental indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase by human chorionic gonadotropin.

We tested the hypothesis that hCG can upregulate human trophoblast indoleamine 2, 3-dioxygenase (INDO), which catalyzes the breakdown of tryptophan in villous circulation. The results revealed that it can. Treatment of human trophoblasts with hCG resulted in a time and dose dependent increase in INDO mRNA and protein levels and its enzyme activity. The hCG effect was hormone specific and required the dimer conformation of hCG. The hCG effect required its receptors and was mediated by a cAMP dependent, but protein kinase A independent, mitogen-activated protein kinase 3/1 (MAPK3/1) signaling mechanism. In summary, the present data demonstrate a novel hCG effect on human placental INDO, which probably plays a key role at maternal fetal interface in preventing fetal rejection.

Role of epidermal growth factor receptor degradation in gemcitabine-mediated cytotoxicity.

We have recently reported that treatment with gemcitabine, a potent chemotherapeutic agent and radiation sensitizer, stimulates phosphorylation of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). Because phosphorylation of EGFR is known to precede receptor degradation, we hypothesized that gemcitabine treatment may also result in EGFR degradation. In two human head and neck cancer cell lines, UMSCC-1 and UMSCC-6, we demonstrated an approximately 80% decrease in total EGFR levels at 72 h after a 2-h treatment with 1 muM gemcitabine. Neither cisplatin nor 5-fluorouracil, which are used to treat head and neck cancer, caused EGFR degradation. EGFR downregulation did not occur at the level of transcription, as assessed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), but instead occurred via phosphorylation and ubiquitination of the receptor along a proteosome/lysosome-mediated pathway. Inhibition of EGFR degradation, by either pretreatment with the EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor gefitinib or by exposure to the proteosome/lysosome inhibitor MG132, significantly reduced gemcitabine-induced cell death. These results suggest that EGFR degradation may be a novel mechanism for gemcitabine-mediated cell death. These findings also indicate that caution should be exercised when combining gemcitabine with agents that may prevent EGFR degradation, such as EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors administered in a suboptimal sequence or proteosome inhibitors.

LAI inversion algorithm based on directional reflectance kernels.

Leaf area index (LAI) is an important ecological and environmental parameter. A new LAI algorithm is developed using the principles of ground LAI measurements based on canopy gap fraction. First, the relationship between LAI and gap fraction at various zenith angles is derived from the definition of LAI. Then, the directional gap fraction is acquired from a remote sensing bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) product. This acquisition is obtained by using a kernel driven model and a large-scale directional gap fraction algorithm. The algorithm has been applied to estimate a LAI distribution in China in mid-July 2002. The ground data acquired from two field experiments in Changbai Mountain and Qilian Mountain were used to validate the algorithm. To resolve the scale discrepancy between high resolution ground observations and low resolution remote sensing data, two TM images with a resolution approaching the size of ground plots were used to relate the coarse resolution LAI map to ground measurements. First, an empirical relationship between the measured LAI and a vegetation index was established. Next, a high resolution LAI map was generated using the relationship. The LAI value of a low resolution pixel was calculated from the area-weighted sum of high resolution LAIs composing the low resolution pixel. The results of this comparison showed that the inversion algorithm has an accuracy of 82%. Factors that may influence the accuracy are also discussed in this paper.

Transcription mapping and characterization of proteins produced from early region 4 of porcine adenovirus type 3.

The early region 4 (E4) of porcine adenovirus 3 (PAdV-3) was characterized by Northern blot, rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE), RT-PCR and cDNA sequence analysis. Northern blot analysis revealed three different classes of transcripts, which appeared and peaked at different times post-infection. The RT-PCR, RACE and cDNA sequence analysis identified nine major E4 transcripts, all of which shared a 107-bp 5' leader sequence and a 126-bp 3' terminus. These transcripts have one to three introns removed. Interestingly, of the nine major transcripts, there was one fusion transcript of ORFp1 and ORFp7 (ORFp1/7), which codes for a protein of 119 amino acids. All transcripts initiated at nucleotide 33740 of the PAdV-3 genome. To identify proteins, rabbit antiserum was prepared using a bacterial fusion protein encoding p2, p3, p4 or p7 proteins. Serum against p2, p3 and p4 immunoprecipitated proteins of 13.5, 13.6 and 15.3 kDa, respectively, in in-vitro transcribed and translated mRNA and in PAdV-3-infected cells. Serum against p7 immunoprecipitated a protein of 19.8 kDa in in-vitro transcription and translation analysis but recognized two proteins of 19.8 kDa (encoded by ORFp7) and 14 kDa (encoded by the fusion transcript ORF1/7) in PAdV-3-infected cells. The protein encoded by ORFp2 was localized in the nucleus of PAdV-3-infected cells. The proteins encoded by ORFp3 and ORFp7\ORFp1/7 were detected in the cytoplasm of PAdV-3-infected cells. However, the protein encoded by ORFp4 was observed both in the cytoplasm and nucleus of PAdV-3-infected cells.

Proteomic analysis of hypoxia-induced responses in the syncytialization of human placental cell line BeWo.

Syncytiotrophoblast formation is affected by a number of pathological conditions and suppressed syncytiotrophoblast formation due to hypoxia may play a role in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia. However, the molecular basis of hypoxia-inhibited trophoblast syncytialization is poorly understood. To determine the effect of hypoxia on trophoblast syncytialization, a proteomic analysis was performed in the human cytotrophoblast cell line BeWo using two-dimensional electrophoresis and MALDI-TOF-TOF-MS. Hypoxia induced marked inhibition of BeWo cell fusion and differentiation. The proteomic profiling was established under hypoxia in BeWo cell syncytialization. The results showed that twenty proteins were significantly up-or down-regulated under hypoxia, compared with cells under normoxia. In response to hypoxia, three antioxidants, peroxiredoxin 1, peroxiredoxin 2 and 1-Cys peroxiredoxin, were down-regulated, two proteins involved in glycolysis pathway (malate dehydrogenase and enolase) were up-regulated. The expression of two members of the annexin family (annexin A2 and annexin A5) increased. We also found a decreased expression of 14-3-3 tau protein in hypoxia treated cells. Proteins implied in protein degradation and folding were also identified. The expression of two cytoskeleton components (keratin 1 and beta-actin) was found to be down-regulated. In addition, galectin-3 was up-regulated. These proteins have been implicated in regulating cellular oxidative stress, glycolysis, signal transduction, protein folding and degradation, cell mobility and cytoskeletal structure formation. Western blot analysis revealed that the levels of peroxiredoxin 1 and 14-3-3 tau decreased, whereas the levels of annexin A5 and annexin A2 increased in BeWo cells under hypoxia. These findings provided new insights into the molecular mechanisms in mediating cellular response to hypoxia in trophoblast syncytialization.

Serotonin facilitates a persistent calcium current in motoneurons of rats with and without chronic spinal cord injury.

In the months after spinal cord transection, motoneurons in the rat spinal cord develop large persistent inward currents (PICs) that are responsible for muscle spasticity. These PICs are mediated by low-threshold TTX-sensitive sodium currents (Na PIC) and L-type calcium currents (Ca PIC). Recently, the Na PIC was shown to become supersensitive to serotonin (5-HT) after chronic injury. In the present paper, a similar change in the sensitivity of the Ca PIC to 5-HT was investigated after injury. The whole sacrocaudal spinal cord from acute spinal rats and spastic chronic spinal rats (S2 level transection 2 mo previously) was studied in vitro. Intracellular recordings were made from motoneurons and slow voltages ramps were applied to measure PICs. TTX was used to block the Na PIC. For motoneurons of chronic spinal rats, a low dose of 5-HT (1 microM) significantly lowered the threshold of the Ca PIC from -56.7 +/- 6.0 to -63.1 +/- 7.1 mV and increased the amplitude of the Ca PIC from 2.4 +/- 1.0 to 3.0 +/- 0.73 nA. Higher doses of 5-HT acted similarly. For motoneurons of acute spinal rats, low doses of 5-HT had no significant effects, whereas a high dose (about 30 microM) significantly lowered the threshold of the L-Ca PIC from -58.5 +/- 14.8 to -62.5 +/- 3.6 mV and increased the amplitude of the Ca PIC from 0.69 +/- 1.05 to 1.27 +/- 1.1 nA. Thus Ca PICs in motoneurons are about 30-fold supersensitive to 5-HT in chronic spinal rats. The 5-HT-induced facilitation of the Ca PIC was blocked by nimodipine, not by the I(h) current blocker Cs(+) (3 mM) or the SK current blocker apamin (0.15 microM), and it lasted for hours after the removal of 5-HT from the nCSF, even increasing initially after removing 5-HT. The effects of 5-HT make motoneurons more excitable and ultimately lead to larger, more easily activated plateaus and self-sustained firing. The supersensitivity to 5-HT suggests the small amounts of endogenous 5-HT below the injury in a chronic spinal rat may act on supersensitive receptors to produce large Ca PICs and ultimately enable muscle spasms.

Depot-specific messenger RNA expression of 11 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 and leptin in adipose tissue of children and adults.

OBJECTIVE: To compare expression of messenger RNA (mRNA) coding for the cortisol regenerating enzyme 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11beta-HSD1), and the adipocytokines leptin and resistin in paired biopsies of subcutaneous adipose tissue (SC) and omental adipose tissue (OM) from children. DESIGN: Paired biopsies (SC and OM) were obtained from 54 children (age 0.17-16 years, body mass index (BMI) 12.5-28.3 kg/m(2), BMI standard deviation score (SDS) -2.5-4.5) and 16 adults (age 27-79 years, BMI 19-46 kg/m(2)) undergoing open abdominal surgery. mRNA levels of 11beta-HSD1, leptin and resistin were measured using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). RESULTS: 11beta-HSD1 mRNA level was higher in OM than in SC (P<0.05), whereas leptin mRNA was higher in SC than in OM (P<0.001). There was no difference in the resistin mRNA level between SC and OM. These results were consistent in children and adults. In children, 11beta-HSD1 mRNA in SC was positively associated with BMI SDS (P<0.05), whereas in OM it was positively associated with age (P<0.05). The association between 11beta-HSD1 expression and age remained significant after adjustment for BMI SDS and gender. Leptin mRNA was positively associated with BMI SDS (SC: P<0.001, OM: P<0.001) but not with age in children. In multiple regression analyses, including anthropometric variables and age, BMI SDS was independently associated with mRNA levels of 11beta-HSD1 (P<0.05) and leptin (P<0.001) in SC. When normal weight and overweight children were analyzed separately, 11beta-HSD1 mRNA levels were positively associated with leptin in OM in the overweight group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: There are depot-specific differences in mRNA levels of 11beta-HSD1 and leptin in children and adults. The positive association of 11beta-HSD1 mRNA in OM with age may reflect a causal role in visceral fat accumulation during growth. Increasing 11beta-HSD1 and leptin mRNA in SC with increasing BMI SDS could suggest that the risk of metabolic consequences of obesity may be established early in life.

Intra-ethnic differences in genetic variants of the UGT-glucuronosyltransferase 1A1 gene in Chinese populations.

Variants within the human UGT1A1 gene are associated with irinotecan induced severely adverse reactions and hyperbilirubinemia. Intra-ethnic differences in the genetic variation and haplotypes of UGT1A1 gene have been analyzed in the present study. Relationship between the concentrations of total serum bilirubin (T-bil) and haplotype structure of UGT1A1 in healthy people were also evaluated. We genotyped five functional polymorphisms including -3279T>G and -3156G>A in the enhancer region, (TA)6>7 in the TATA box, and 211G>A (G71R), 686C>A (P229Q) in the exon1 region of UGT1A1 in three groups of healthy Chinese ethnic populations, consisting of 264 subjects of She origin, 539 of Han origin and 273 of Dong origin. The distribution of -3279T>G, (TA)6>7, 211G>A of UGT1A1 differed greatly as between the three ethnic groups. All of six haplotypes differed considerably between at least two of the three groups, which highlighted the need to analyze clinically irinotecan toxicity relevant SNPs and haplotypes in a variety of different racial groups within the Chinese population. Total bilirubin concentration in homozygous carriers of the -3279G and (TA)7 allele were significantly higher than those in heterozygous carriers or homozygous carriers of wild-type alleles. Carriers of the variant haplotypes (-3279G; -3156A; (TA)7; 211G; 686C) had higher serum T-Bil concentrations compared with the other groups. Our results indicate that heterogeneity among different ethnic populations is possibly the result of microevolution and is relevant to studies into the effect of tailored drug treatment.

Influence of duration of focal cerebral ischemia and neuronal nitric oxide synthase on translocation of apoptosis-inducing factor to the nucleus.

Translocation of apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF) from the mitochondria to the nucleus can play a major role in neuronal death elicited by oxidant stress. The time course of nuclear translocation of AIF after experimental stroke may vary with the severity of injury and may be accelerated by oxidant stress associated with reperfusion and nitric oxide (NO) production. Western immunoblots of AIF on nuclear fractions of ischemic hemisphere of male mice showed no significant increase with 1 h of middle cerebral artery occlusion and no reperfusion, whereas increases were detectable after 6 and 24 h of permanent ischemia. However, as little as 20 min of reperfusion after 1 h of middle cerebral artery occlusion resulted in an increase in nuclear AIF coincident with an increase in poly(ADP-ribose) polymer (PAR) formation. Further nuclear AIF accumulation was seen at 6 and 24 h of reperfusion. In contrast, 20 min of reperfusion after 2 h of occlusion did not increase nuclear AIF. In this case, nuclear AIF became detectable at 6 and 24 h of reperfusion. With brief occlusion of 30 min duration, nuclear AIF remained undetectable at both 20 min and 6 h and became evident only after 24 h of reperfusion. Inhibition of neuronal NO synthase attenuated formation of PAR and nuclear AIF accumulation. Gene deletion of neuronal NO synthase also attenuated nuclear AIF accumulation. Therefore, reperfusion accelerates AIF translocation to the nucleus when focal ischemia is of moderate duration (1 h), but is markedly delayed after brief ischemia (30 min). Nuclear translocation of AIF eventually occurs with prolonged focal ischemia with or without reperfusion. Neuronally-derived NO is a major factor contributing to nuclear AIF accumulation after stroke.

Response to environmental flows in the Lower Tarim River, Xinjiang, China: an ecological interpretation of water-table dynamics.

Increased water-dependent development and utilization have led to significant environmental and hydrological degradation of the Tarim River in western China and its dependent ecosystems. Between the 1950s and 1970s, 350 km of the lower reaches were drained and between 1960 and 1980 the water-table fell from between -2 and -3 m to between -8 and -10 m. Subsequently, riparian ecosystems were seriously degraded. In 2000, the Chinese government launched a program to restore the lower reaches of the river. Four environmental flows of 1034 x 10(6) m(3) were released from 2000 to 2002. This paper interprets and discusses the ecological significance of changes following the releases and identifies the relationship between water-table dynamics and vegetation responses. Short-term objectives for river restoration are proposed with possible monitoring parameters suggested.

The immunohistochemical expression of p21WAF1/Cip1 and Proliferating cell nuclear antigen in laryngeal squamous cell carcinomas.

The purpose of this study was to assess the significance of the expression of p21WAF1/Cip1 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in human laryngeal squamous cell carcinomas. Forty-eight patients (25 supraglottic, 23 glottic) who had undergone operations between 1998 and 2003 were included in this study. The Envision immunohistochemistry method was utilized to stain these tissue specimens. The results showed that the immunostaining of p21WAF1/Cip1 do not show any correlation with differentiation, N stage, metastasis, survival, recurrence or the laryngeal site of involvement. A significant inverse correlation was detected between p21WAF1/Cip1 and the T stage. In contrast, the percentage of PCNA labelled cells showed a significant correlation with the T stage, but not with other clinicopathological parameters. There were differences in the expression of p21WAF1/Cip1 and PCNA between the supraglottic and the glottic carcinomas. In conclusion, our findings suggest that p21WAF1/Cip1 and PCNA may play an important role in the progression of carcinoma of the supraglottic larynx.

Response to environmental flows in the lower Tarim River, Xinjiang, China: ground water.

In China's west since the 1950s large-scale ecosystem degeneration has occurred through water diversions for agricultural purposes. Since 2000, 1038 x 10(6) m(3) of water have been released into the Tarim River with the result that water reached the terminal Taitema Lake for the first time in 30 years. This environmental flow raised water-table levels along 350 km of the river. To assess the response of the water-table, a comparison "pristine" site is compared with downstream monitored sites. The results show huge changes in water-table levels. The study verifies that the water-table is extremely responsive to environmental flows, that strong internal similarities exist along the length of the river, and that the effect on the water-table and hence likely riparian vegetation recovery can be tentatively predicted. The actual impacts of the restoration strategy are less than those originally expected politically, socially and within the scientific community. We make recommendations on more effective release strategies.

Diet and gene expression: delta-5 and delta-6 desaturases in healthy Chinese and European subjects.

AIM: To compare the composition of fatty acids (FAs) in diet, and the expression of delta-6 desaturase (D6D) and delta-5 desaturase (D5D) genes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) between Chinese and Europeans. METHODS: Three-day dietary records from 20 subjects from Beijing, China (n = 10) and Kent, UK (n = 10) were analysed. Expression of PBMC D6D and D5D genes of the subjects was determined using RT-PCR. RESULTS: The dietary intake of Chinese subjects contained less saturated fatty acids (SFAs) and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), but more essential fatty acids (EFAs) than that of Europeans. Levels of expression of PBMC D6D and D5D genes of Chinese subjects were significantly lower than those of Europeans. A significant positive correlation was found between dietary intake of total SFAs and total MUFAs and expression of PBMC D6D and D5D genes, but a significant negative correlation between dietary intake of linoleic acid (LA) and alpha-linolenic acid (LNA) and the expression of PBMC D6D and D5D genes. CONCLUSION: Intake of high SFAs and MUFAs appears to increase expression of PBMC D6D and D5D genes, whilst high EFAs intake appears to decrease expression of PBMC D6D and D5D genes. A follow-up study of the expression of D6D and D5D genes in Chinese who live in European countries with high SFA and MUFA diets would be of interest.
