[Normal anatomic measurements in cervical computed tomograms].

Radiodiagnostically relevant normal values and variations for measurements of the cervical region, the arithmetical average and the standard deviation were determined from adequate computer tomograms on 60 healthy women and men, aged 20 to 83 years. The sagittal diameter of the prevertebral soft tissue and the lumina of the upper respiratory tract were evaluated at exactly defined levels between the hyoid bone and the incisura jugularis stuni. The thickness of the aryepiglottic folds, the maximal sagittal and transverse diameters of the thyroid gland and the calibre of the great cervical vessels were defined. To assess information about laryngeal function in computerized tomography, measurements of distances between the cervical spine and anatomical fixed points of the larynx and hypopharynx were made as well as of the degree of vocal cord movement during normal respiration and phonation.

[Computed tomography of pancreatic cystic fibrosis].

The computer tomographic appearances of atrophic and lipomatous degeneration of the pancreas in cystic pancreatic fibrosis are described. CT exploration of the pancreas is recommended, particularly in differential diagnostic aspects of cystic fibrosis.

Adolescent↗

[The cervical compartments in the computed tomogram].

The computed tomographic anatomy of the cervical compartments, with emphasis on the fascial planes of the neck, is described. Typical disease processes within these fascial confined compartments have been documented.

Adolescent↗

[Computed tomography of laryngoceles].

The computer tomographic appearances of internal, external and mixed laryngoceles are described on the basis of ten patients and the differential diagnosis is considered.

Adult↗

[Computed tomography in cervical lymphadenopathies].

The computer tomographic appearances of cervical lymphadenopathies were studied in 130 patients with special reference to differential diagnosis. The volume and contour of the lymph nodes, their radiosensitivity and contrast enhancement were judged for differential diagnostic purposes.

[Computed tomography in ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms].

The computer tomographic appearances of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms are described, with particular reference to localisation and haematoma formation. Emergency CT is recommended as the method of choice for investigating ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms because of the wealth of information and high diagnostic precision.

Aged↗

[Computer tomographic functional diagnosis of the larynx].

The computer tomographic morphology of the larynx was studied in 19 patients during various phases of respiration, such as during quiet breathing and in expiratory phonation. The diagnostic information which can be obtained by computer tomographic functional studies of laryngeal neoplasms is discussed.

[Biliary excretion kinetics of the biliary contrast media ioglycamide, iodoxamate and iotroxamate in the dog].

The biliary excretion of meglumine iotroxamate (ITX) and meglumine iodoxamate (IDX), two new intravenous cholangiographic contrast materials, was compared with that of meglumine ioglycamide (IGL) in bile-fistula dogs following intravenous infusion in a steady state. With any equimolar infusion rate or plasma concentration, more ITX and IDX were secreted in the bile than IGL. The maximum rate of biliary excretion (Emax.) of either ITX (2.23 +/- SD 0.28 mumol/min/kg) or IDX (2.91 +/- SD 0.39 mumol/min/kg) was significantly greater than that of IGL (1.22 +/- SD 0.19 mumol/min/kg); the biliary concentration was always greater for ITX and IDX than for IGL.

Computed tomography in carcinoma of the rectum.

A total of 11 cases of untreated carcinoma of the rectosigmoid colon and 56 cases of recurrent rectosigmoid carcinoma have been investigated by computed tomography. A tumor size of more than 2 cm in diameter is easily demonstrated within the rectosigmoid wall. Invasion of the pararectal fatty planes and the neighboring structures and organs is conclusively diagnosed when obliteration of the demarcating fat planes is demonstrated. Enlargement of the regional lymph nodes of more than 15 mm diameter indicates malignant metastatic spread. Local malignant recurrence following complete resection of the rectum is recognized when the tumor size has reached 2 cm or more. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy may be necessary to conclusively identify malignant tissue within the postoperative cavity.

[Sonography of vascular and biliary epigastric structures].

Ultrasonic devices with rapid image build-up and high power of resolution enable detailed assessment of the vascular and biliary structures. Visualisation of the biliary tract of normal lumen in the extrahepatic region enables identification of a biliary obstruction at a time where dilatation of the intrahepatic biliary tract has not yet taken place. The identification of small visceral branches of the aorta abdominalis as well as of portal and systemic veins yields sonographically reliable vascular points of reference which enable, apart from the exact localisation of the biliary tract and of the pancreas, accurate topographic identification of abdominal mass lesions.
