The major toxic effects of DTIC are nausea and vomiting, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia. It is an effective drug in the treatment of malignant melanoma with better response rates in women than in men. The addition of other drugs to DTIC therapy does not produce a higher response rate. Preliminary results indicate that as an adjuvant to standard surgical therapy DTIC does not appear beneficial to patients with a high risk for recurrence.
Duodenocolic fistula has been reported as the result of a variety of benign and malignant processes, but rarely from a pancreatic carcinoma. Such a case in a young adult is presented. The literature is reviewed; a single duodenocolic and two gastrocolic fistulas secondary to adenocarcinoma of the pancreas have previously been reported.

Porfiromycin was given to a group of patients with a variety of solid tumors. Of 114 patients admitted to the study, 103 yielded evaluable data. The following dosage schedules were used to determine the toxicity of porfiromycin when given in multiple doses by intravenous injection: 0.2 mg/kg x 5 days, 0.3 mg/kg x 5 days, 0.35 mg/kg x 5 days, 0.4 mg/kg x 5 days, 0.24 mg/kg x 10 days and 0.6 mg/kg weekly. Toxic effects noted were mainly leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and, when injected paravenously, local tissue necrosis. Biological effects were noted at all dosage levels and were more severe at the higher dosages. The data suggest that profiromycin administered intravenously at a dose of 0.35 mg/kg daily for 5 days results in moderate hermatological toxicity and clinical evaluation in a Phase II study at this dosage level is indicated.

Alcoholic husbands and their wives generally agreed that the major aspects of marital happiness dealt with the quality of interpersonal relations. "Undesirable vices (excessive gambling, drinking, etc.)" ranked first as contributing to marital unhappiness while their absence was ranked 27.5 by the husbands and 9.5 by the wives as contributing to marital happiness. The elimination of undesirable habits may resolve much marital misery but it does not necessarily follow that as unhappiness decreases happiness will increase.

Using a standard microtoxicity technique of tissue typing, the distribution of tissue antigens in 75 Maoris and 514 European disease-free blood donors was determined. Fifty Maori and 50 Europeans with rheumatic fever or rheumatic heart disease were compared with each control group. Normal Maoris had HL-A3 less frequently than Europeans (P less than .0005). HL-A28 was reduced (P less than .005) and HL-A17 increased in European patients (P less than .0005). In Maori patients there were minor differences in the frequency of HL-A3 and 8, which were increased, and HL-A10, which was diminished.
Patients with acute losses of large portions of the anterior abdominal wall are discussed. Management is divided into the acute or immediate phase in which initial wound control is paramount, and then a subacute period in which coverage with skin is accomplished. Many weeks later during the chronic phase, reconstructive procedures are done if needed. Methods of handling these defects are presented.
