Protection of all soft tissues is an early and integral component of the total treatment plan involving any dental restoration. A procedure is presented to provide protection of recent extraction sites by using adhesive Burlew foil when making an immediate fixed restoration. The foil provides protection, at the extraction site, from both mechanical and chemical irritation.
Removable partial denture frameworks must fit accurately to function properly and not cause injury to remaining teeth or soft tissue. This article presents a logical method and rationale for seating a removable partial denture framework and a review of several disclosing media used in the try-in procedure.
This article describes the use of a pharmaceutical gelatin capsule as a matrix for making various posted and nonposted crown substructures. The procedure used for a cast post and core using this matrix is outlined.

Obstructive sleep apnea, a sleep disorder, is becoming more prevalent and requires prompt and effective treatment by the dental and medical specialties. Conservative treatment modalities (ie, intraoral devices that prevent or minimize airway obstruction by the tongue) are recommended for treating mild to moderate forms of OSA. This article describes a simplified technique for fabricating an intraoral OSA prosthesis.
The restoration of a progressive delayed disocclusion on periodontally healthy canines by etched porcelain onlays has been presented as a suitable treatment alternative to interrupt bruxism and reverse destructive occlusal neuroses.
A simple modification of a standard laboratory saw and the work bench surface enhances the saw's overall usefulness for sectioning casts. When using these modifications, the operator has a clear view of the preparation margin and the saw blade at all times, thereby permitting accurate, controlled cuts to be made from the underside of a removable pinned die section.

One-hundred fifty carbon steel Gates Glidden drills were compared with 150 stainless steel Gates Glidden drills before and after sterilization in an autoclave, salt beads, dry heat, or 2% alkaline glutaraldehyde. Cutting efficiency and separation rates of the drills were evaluated. Stainless steel #1 and 2 Gates Glidden drills resisted separation and maintained their cutting efficiency statistically better than the carbon steel #1 and 2 Gates Glidden drills after one sterilization cycle in an autoclave, salt bead sterilizer, or dry heat oven. Glutaraldehyde did not effect either type of drill.
