[Treatment of hydrocephalus with Cordis-Hakim valve (author's transl)].

The management of hydrocephalus in children is discussed. 19 children are reported for revision surgery, physical and mental development and changes is skull circumference are described. The Cordis-Hakim valves were tested in relation to pressure, flow rate, protein concentration in C.S.F. These tests have shown that the Cordis-Hakim valve is very satisfactory.

[Congenital bifid sternum (author's transl)].

The authors give a short description of the frequency and types of the rare deformities of the sternum. Following a detailed presentation of the various methods of treatment, three of their own observations, one of them an ectopia cordis, are given as case-reports. Two of these patients have already been observed over a long period.

[Evaluation of the limits of orthodontic treatment possibilities in surgically treated patients with clefts by means of teleradiography].

Using indices elaborated by himself for the evaluation of lateral teleradiographs, the author attempted to systematize the very divergent forms of postoperative jaw crippling in cleft patients. By substantiating the characteristics on inhibition in growth of the upper jaw, and by establishing a mandibular macrognathia, it is possible to judge of the limits of an orthodontic treatment.

[Effect of protein-containing cerebrospinal fluid on ventriculo-auricular drainage].

Elevated protein level in liquor still prohibits ventriculo-auricular drainage methods. Spitz-Holter valves and Pudenz-Heyer valves were therefore tried in model tests using plasma-containing fluids. The quantities of flow depending on time were presented on graphs. A considerably reduced flow through the Spitz-Holter valve was observed after brief perfusion already, with tendency to complete occlusion. Similar results were obtained from trials on the Pudenz-Heyer valve.
