Detachable drive unit for assistant controlled manual wheelchairs.
A self-contained power unit designed to assist porters and nurses with the task of moving patients in unpowered wheelchairs is described. It can be quickly and easily clamped onto a wheelchair and used to provide assistance for negotiating ramps or long corridors. This paper describes the design and performance of the prototype.

A bed-mounted mobile intensive-care unit.
The provision of intensive-care facilities for patients in transit can present problems. We describe our novel approach to these in which we have added facilities to a standard bed which is used for the transfer of patients. This may also be a cost-effective method of providing intensive-care equipment to beds at any location.

A novel cervical dilatation force measurement instrument.
A simple and robust instrument for cervical dilatation force measurement is described which measures axial insertion force but is not affected by lateral loads. The instrument is battery-powered, self-contained and displays actual axial force and peak axial force on digital liquid crystal displays.
