[Multiple primary neoplasms].

In the years 1980-1987 in the Department of Internal Diseases, Silesian Medical Academy in Katowice 32 patients were observed with multiple malignant neoplasms of various organs. The time from the diagnosis of the first neoplasm to the appearance of the second one was from 0 to 168 months (mean 61.8 months). The second neoplasm developed in over half the cases (53.1%) after more than 5 years from the first one. The most frequent first neoplasms were: Hodgkin's disease and breast carcinoma, and the most frequent second neoplasm was colonic carcinoma, gastric carcinoma and endometrial carcinoma. The necessity of prolonged observation of patients with malignant neoplasms during many years is stressed.

[Anti-elastin antibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus].

Immunological response to elastin-derived peptides may cause tissue damage with subsequent degradation of the elastic fibres. Therefore, an incidence of anti-elastin antibodies in sera of patients with the systemic lupus erythematosus was studied. Sixty sera from 50 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and 50 healthy subjects were assayed with dot-immunobinding technique. Titre 1:10 was considered diagnostically significant. Anti-elastin antibodies were diagnosed in 19 patients (31%) where as they were absent in the control group. In all cases anti-elastin antibodies were IgG.

Adult

[Results of combined therapy in patients with nonseminomatous testicular tumors].

The results of multidrug therapy of 44 male patients with non-seminomatous testicular tumours are discussed. The diagnosed tumours were of all stages of the clinical advances and were treated with combined chemotherapy (surgery and PVP regimen). Thirty two patients (73%) are followed up between 7 and 103 months and survived, complete remission is noted in 29 patients (66%) including 6 patients who survived over 5 years. Symptoms of the tumour are found in 3 patients. Twelve patients (27%) died. The treatment did not produce life-threatening complications. The obtained results have been compared with those reported by other authors.
