The author deals with certain incision techniques for the purpose of apicectomy that that are but rarely used due to their relatively limited range of indications. Furthermore, he describes and recommends two new incision techniques. The first is a variant of the V-incision at the labial frenum; the second is a Y-incision to be employed when there is a flat oral vestibule or an interfering frenulum of the cheek.

[Malignant degeneration of a residual radicular cyst].

The degeneration risk is extremely low for odontogenic cysts. The present communication deals with a squamous cell carcinoma of the left maxilla. Clinically, it showed all the symptoms of an infected cyst; but histologically, it presented carcinomatous degeneration on certain parts of the cystic epithelium. It was a true cystocarcinoma.

[Therapy of the styloid syndrome].

Resection yields the best results in treating pain-producing megastyloids. With due regard to their courses, the extra-oral approach may be used for exposing them, but the intra-oral approach is very often more indicated. Due to the immediate proximity of the great cervical vessels, the resection in the high region, which is most likely to avoid failures, is not riskless. For this reason, the author uses for the intervention an instrumentarium developed on the basis of his own suggestions.

[Secondary retention of a permanent tooth].

The authors report of a case of secondary retention of a lower first molar. It turned out to be a true "re-inclusion" of the tooth without involvement of the antrum. The radiograph of a central metal filling performed 10 years ago also suggests a retrograde movement of this teeth and its re-inclusion in the mandible.

[Report on experiences with Eskici's vertical incision for apicoectomies].

The vertical incision described by Eskici for apicectomy had been used in 100 patients and verified for appropriateness. It was found that this technique has a more limited range of indication compared to the angular incision (prefered by the authors) since it creates a smaller field of operation. Its advantages consist in the absolute sparing of the marginal periodontium and in certain peculiar features of wound healing.

[Indications for treatment of mandibular fractures in the adult].

From the many kinds of treatment which are indicated in the literature, the authors selected for presentation those methods which have proved useful at the Rostock University Clinic and Policlinic of Stomatology, during many years, in managing mandibular fractures, their indications being precisely established. The therapeutical measures still centre on conservative methods, modern operation techniques being optimal complements. If surgical management of the fracture is necessary, a stable osteosynthesis technique should be used on principle, condylar process fractures being excepted.
