[Prognostic value of vaginal ultrasound with color Doppler in differentiating the malignancy of ovarian tumors].

The authors presented results of research on pathological vascularization in ovarian tumors by Doppler's method. 60 records of blood flow were analysed to estimate: pulsation index (PI) and resistance index (RI). Among benign ovarian tumors (26 cases) PI was 1.82 +/- 0.93 and RI 0.93 +/- 0.36. On the contrary, for malignant neoplasms (11 cases) the blood flow was low resistance PI: 0.89 +/- 0.38 and RI: 0.44 +/- 0.19.

Antibiotic action of beta-ursolic acid.

The antimicrobial action of beta-ursolic acid (triterpenoid sapogenin from the ursan group) has been studied. At the concentration of 300 mug/ml, this substance inhibited growth of all strains of staphylococci investigated. MIC for Gram-positive bacteria ranged between 50 and 500 mug/ml, and 100 to 800 mug/ml for Gram-negative bacteria and yeasts. Acquired resistance to beta-ursolic acid was transient.

Action of helenin on microorganisms.

The action of helenin on 10 genera of bacteria and yeasts and on 8 genera of dermatophytes was studied. The minimal inhibitory concentration for gram-positive bacteria ranged from 10 to 400 mug/ml, for gram-negative bacteria from 100 to 800 mug/ml, for yeasts from 200 to 750 mug/ml, and for dermatophytes from 50 to 500 mug/ml. Strains naturally resistant to helenin are very rare.
