Studies were carried out on the chemical composition of the meat of valuable cut-up parts in 88 broiler rabbits (51 New Zealand White, 37 hybrids). Muscles of legs and backs differed in nutrient content. The fat content of legs was higher than that of M.long.dorsi, and directly related to increasing carcass weights. As to the varieties mostly insignificant effects on chemical constituents were measured. There were but a few correlations between the analysed qualitative properties.

3 groups of fattening cattle (DSR breed) were fed rations of nearly identical composition for a period of 395-455 days. The rations consisted of either crushed (group I), finely ground (group II) or finely ground and pelleted material (group III). Samples of the ruminal mucosa from 26 animals were investigated macroscopically, microscopically and histologically. All samples from animals of group I were found to be normal whereas clumping of the villi, hyperkeratosis, atrophy and loss of villi over 40%-50% of the surface of the ruminal mucosa were observed in the animals from group II, and, to a larger extent in animals of group III. The main reason for the mentioned changes of that kind are the very fine foodstuff particles, less than 0.05 to 0.5 mm in length, which form extraneous deposits in the mucosa or act as cement substances between neighbouring villi. This leads to hyperkeratosis because these particles prevent desquamation of the corneal cells and at the same time produce conditions of compression; these, in turn, result in a hardening of the newly formed stratum corneum. Hypertrophy of the undamaged villi was observed in animals of group III receiving the pelleted ration (thickness of villi group III: 243 mum as compared with group I:196 mum). The unfavourable morphological state of the ruminal mucosa in animals of group III was associated with a reduced rate of daily weight gains and increased food consumption.
One of the important needs in the surgery of renal transplantation is the long-term preservation of the removed kidney. Up to now, preservation time has been limited to about 72 hours. The viability of the stored organ decreases sharply with prolongation of the preservation over 24 hours. At present, two methods of preservation are widely used: the storage of the organ in a cold electrolyte solution, and the continuous, hypothermic perfusion with albumin or cryoprecipitated plasma [1]. Both methods require a low temperature to reduce the endogenous renal metabolism. Besides the quality of the removed kidney, the type of perfusate and the duration of perfusion, two other factors might influence the viability and later function of the transplanted kidney: the absolute temperature during preservation, and the supply of energy - yielding substrates to the isolated kidney [2,3]. Up to now, the influence of the latter factor on the metabolic performance of the kidney tissue has been studied only in a few investigations [4,5,6,7]. In the following study, we determined the uptake of various energy - yielding substrates, oxygen consumption and gluconeogenesis at various low temperatures in isolated rat kidney tubules.
An investigation was made on patients with cervical carcinoma to test the efficiency of a general administration of antibiotics and chemotherapeutic drugs which are commonly used in urology. The study has been made to analyze the frequency of pathological findings in the urinary tract, in general, and, in particular, the pattern of bacteriological findings as well as antibiogramms at different times of carcinoma therapy. Additionally, consideration was given to the bacteriological situation before the onset of carcinoma therapy and to manifest urologic complications during and after carcinoma therapy. In cases of primary absence of bacteria in urine the therapy preferably used in this clinic was that with chloramphenicol and nifurantin administered up to the 4th week after operation and this was sufficient in two thirds of cases. Conversely, in patients with primary bacteriuria the results of treatment after 4 weeks were satisfactory in only one third of the cases. This poses the necessity of making a more subtle selection of drugs including broad spectrum penicillins. Moreover, therapy has to be continued mainly for women with a previous urological history and for women in whom infections of the urinary tract were observed on release from the hospital. In addition to prevention of chronic pyelonephritis improvement of postoperative wound healing as well as restriction of ureteral fibrosis, hydronephrosis and uremia, as a result of general control of infection are also of considerable importance.

1. From Streptococcus faecalis a third novel phosphoglucolipid was isolated. It contained D-glucose, glycerol, acyl groups and phosphorus in a molar ratio of approx. 2 : 3 : 4 : 2. 2. The structure was shown to be 3(1)-O-[6 inches-(sn-glycerol-1-phosphoryl), 6 foot-(1,2 diacyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphoryl)-2 foot-O-(alpha-D-glucopyranosyl)-alpha-D-glucopyranosyl]-1(3),2-diacylglycerol. The novel lipid is related to the earlier described phosphatidyl and glycerophosphoryl kojibiosyl diacylglycerol from Streptococcus faecalis by combininb their substituents in its structure. 3. The structure of the deacylated core was accomplished by analyses of the breakdown products obtained on Smith degradation and strong alkaline hydrolysis. The location of the acyl groups was achieved by degradation of the intact lipid with 60% HF (w/v) which resulted in the formation of inorganic phosphate, glycerol, diacylglycerol and diglucosyl diacylglycerol. The sn-glycerol-1-phosphoryl and 3-sn-phosphatidyl substituents were located by hydrolysis of the lipid with 98% acetic acid (v/v) and subsequent analysis of the resultant phosphatidyl diglucosyl diacylglycerol. 4. The composition and positional distribution of the constituent fatty acids at the two diacylglycerol portions was studied by combination of chemical and enzymatic degradations. The fatty acids are the same as with the other polar lipids of S. faecalis, they are present in nearly the same proportions and display the same non-random distribution pattern. 5. A possible relationship between sn-glycerol 1-phosphate containing phosphoglucolipids and lipoteichoic acid will be discussed.

In 37 patients with significant bacteriuria in pregnancy antibody-determinations were carried out by means of bacterioagglutination and indirect hemagglutination. High antibody titres in serum could be detected in 13 patients with clinically acute pyelonephritis. Bacteriurias in connection with chronical pyelonephritis resulted in titres above normal values in few cases only. In no case there was a connection between asymptomatic bacteriurias and an increasing antibody titre.
At first the general problems of operations in the x-ray treated tissue are discussed. After that 11 cases of patients, who were x-rayed, were demonstrated. With these patients we carried out a radical operation, because the cancer of cervicis was insufficiently affected by a primary radiological therapy. The bad turn of disease could not be stopped at 6 cases. The women patients got either uretero-vaginal-fistulae (2) or recto-vaginal-fistulae (2) or combined vesico-recto-vaginal-fistulae (1) and in less than one year they died of recidiv of cancer. Two women patients are still tended on account of their vesico-recto-vaginal fistulae. Only three women had been cured satisfactorily and they are till now free of recidivs for 4 to 7 years.
