[Reduction of side effects in aortofemoral angiography: low-osmolar contrast medium compared with conventional contrast medium plus local anaesthetic (author's transl)].

Ioglicinate plus lidocaine and ioxaglate were used for aortofemoral angiography in 15 patients. Side effects of the two contrast media were compared in a double blind study. Injection of ioxaglate caused significantly less vascular pain. With both contrast agents sensation of heat and increase of heart rate were equal. Unlike ioglicinate plus lidocaine ioxaglate did not induce a significant drop of blood pressure. Angiography using low osmolar contrast media causes less side effects than conventional medium plus local anesthetic.

[Diagnostic native roentgenology of operated pituitary adenomas (author's transl)].

Cases showing the value and limitations of diagnostic native roentgenology in recurrent pituitary adenomas were selected from a total of 217 patients. Recurrence is recognized by progressive intrasellar space occupation. Bone apposition at the contours of the sella turcica resulting in reduction of volume and calcifications of the sellar region permit exclusion of intrasellar recurrence. Marking the area of operation improves native roentgenology. Bone apposition of acromegaly may obscure recurrences. According to the literature, about 50% of recurrences can be diagnosed roentgenologically. On the contrary recurrences can be excluded in 10-20% of roentgenologically successfully operated patients.

Aspects of timing and selection of cases in radioiodine therapy and percutaneous irradiation of well differentiated carcinoma of the thyroid.

142 patients with well differentiated carcinoma of the thyroid were treated postoperatively by radioiodine and percutaneous irradiation according to a fixed schedule. Institution of radioiodine treatment and percutaneous irradiation within 6 months after surgery resulted in a low incidence of local tumor recurrences or of newly formed metastases, and in a high survival rate. Criteria are given, by which postoperative percutaneous irradiation may be omitted without risking impairment of therapeutical results.
