[Somatotypic characteristic of children aged 8 to 12 years--residents of South Russia].

Somatometry and somatotyping of 435 practically healthy children in the second period of childhood (age: 8-12 years) attending the secondary schools in Rostov-on-Don was performed. In the group of children studied the representatives of macrosomal type were found to prevail. It was established that in children of both sex groups the acceleration of growth of muscular somatic component occurred during the period of accelerated rate of increment of body length and mass. Maximum activation of the growth of body fat component was found to occur at the age of 9 to 10 years in girls and at 10 to 11 years in boys. The results of this research supplement the available morphological data on the regularities of growth and development of children of the age group studied, and may be used in forming somatodiagnostic base in the region under investigation.

[Architectonic characteristics of the renal intraorgan arterial blood vessels in norm and in some cariovascular diseases].

The investigation included the study of 68 kidneys obtained from the persons of different age which died from mechanical asphyxia (control group) and 110 kidneys from the patients which died from cardiovascular failure that developed against a background of an ischemic heart disease, atherosclerosis, hypertension and their combinations. The studies were conducted using the complex of methods, which included macromicroscopic, histological, scanning electron microscopy and morphometry. In the patient group, vessel tortuosity, microvaricosities, contour irregularities and vessel deformations were found. Diameter of the vascular glomeruli and their number were reduced. Most pronounced changes in renal microvascular architectonics were detected in essential and renal hypertension, least expressed--in atherosclerosis with prevalent lesions in abdominal aorta. The disturbances of microcirculatory bed included juxtamedullary shunting, and excessive plethora or significant deterioration of blood supply to both cortex and medulla.

[Age factors in architectonics of the splenic arterial vessels].

Spleen of 86 people of different ages was examined using the roentgenoanatomical, macromicroscopical, histological, morphometric and variation-statistical methods. It was established that, starting from the first mature age there was a steady reduction of the area occupied by arterial vessels, which reached its minimal value in senile age and in long-livers. In senescent persons, the atrophy of white and red pulp was established with a concomitant increase in spleen stromal elements content. The changes in the ratios of spleen tissue elements define the dynamics of age-related changes of its functions (including the immune function). In elderly and senile age these changes seem to be related with the reduction of adaptation capacities of the intraorgan arterial bed of the spleen.

[Somatometric characteristics of normal young children and children with endocrine pathology].

Somatometry and somatotyping was performed in 570 healthy children in the first childhood period, attending preschool institutions, and in 78 children with pathology (including 59 children with diabetes mellitus and 19 with thyroid pathology) undergoing clinical investigation and treatment in the Department of Endocrinology of Rostov-on-Don Scientific Research Institute of Obstetrics and Pediatrics. The results obtained revealed that thyroid hyperplasia was most frequent in children of micromuscular type with the average development of bone and adipose somatic components. Congenital hypothyroidism was prevalent in children of macrocorpulent type having the average and high bone mass parameters. In children with diabetes mellitus low values were found for the indices characterizing the degree of development of all anatomical somatic components.

Distribution of proper delay times in quantum chaotic scattering: a crossover from ideal to weak coupling.

The probability distribution of the proper delay times during scattering on a chaotic system is derived in the framework of the random matrix approach and the supersymmetry method. The result obtained is valid for an arbitrary number of scattering channels as well as arbitrary coupling to the energy continuum. The case of statistically equivalent channels is studied in detail. In particular, the semiclassical limit of an infinite number of weak channels is paid appreciable attention.

Decoherence and thermalization in a simple bosonic system.

Properties of a parameter-dependent quantum system with the Hamiltonian H(lambda) randomized by fluctuations of the parameter lambda in a narrow range are investigated. The model employed (the interacting boson model-1) exhibits a crossover behavior at a critical parameter value. Due to the fluctuations, individual eigenstates /psi(alpha)(lambda)> of the Hamiltonian become statistical ensembles of states [density matrices rho(alpha)(lambda)], which allows us to study effects related to the decoherence and thermalization. In the decoherence part, we evaluate von Neumann and information entropies of the density matrices rho(alpha)(lambda) and the overlaps of the eigenstates of the density matrix with various physically relevant bases. An increased decoherence at the " phase transitional" point and an exceptional role of the dynamic-symmetry U(5) basis are discovered. In the part devoted to the thermalization, we develop a method of how a given density matrix rho(alpha)(lambda) can be represented by an equivalent canonical (thermal) ensemble. Thermodynamic consequences of the quantum "phase transition" (related, in particular, to the specific heat of the thermal equivalent) are discussed.

Reconstructive surgery for combined tracheo-esophageal injuries and their sequelae.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate surgical options of treatment in combined tracheo-esophageal injuries and their sequelae and elaborate new ones. METHODS: The overlooked diagnosis of combined tracheo-esophageal injury would lead to severe stenosis of the esophagus and trachea with tracheo-esophageal fistula. This condition requires a complex surgical intervention to be performed with non-standard procedure in every single case. Forty patients with combined tracheo-esophageal injuries were treated in our institution. Nine patients were urgently operated while others were transferred to us from other hospitals with chronic sequelae of the initial trauma. RESULTS: In the majority of cases the cause of the injury was penetrating (17 patients) or iatrogenic (13 patients) trauma followed by blunt neck and chest trauma (six patients) and caustic burn (four patients). Three patients had total cut off of the esophagus and trachea, which were repaired with end-to-end anastomoses. Another six patients had tracheal and esophageal disruptions within one-half to three-quarters of circumference. In these cases both the trachea and esophagus were mobilized within wall laceration and sutured by interrupted Vicryl 4/0. One of them died due to pre-existing disease. Thirty-one patients with sequelae of the trauma were also operated on. In spite of the complexity and extent of the tracheo-esophageal stenosis and fistula the surgical treatment was aimed to one-stage reconstruction of both the esophagus and trachea. For this purpose we performed an originally developed surgical intervention, which was to be modified in accordance with patients diagnosis. The main point of the procedure is that after mobilization of the trachea and esophagus we resect an involved part of the trachea, but preserve a pedicled flap fashioned from the tracheal membrane. Then we remove the mucosa from the flap, resect an involved esophageal wall, repair esophageal mucosa and replace the defect of the muscular layer of the esophagus with the tracheal flap. Then a tracheal or laryngo-tracheal anastomosis is established. There were no postoperative mortality and complications among patients with the sequelae. CONCLUSION: Combined tracheo-esophageal injury requires the precise preoperative diagnosis and well organized plan of surgical treatment, which may be unique for every single patient. The main purpose of the treatment is to restore the continuity of both the esophagus and trachea in one-stage intervention.

Effects of various modes of sonication with low frequency ultrasound on in vitro survival of human tumor cells.

The effect of low frequency ultrasound in the cavitation (5-15 sec exposure) and subcavitation (5-210 sec exposure) modes on in vitro survival of cultured human tumor cells was studied. Analysis of the dose-effect curves and mathematical estimation of the effects low-frequency ultrasonication in the subcavitation mode on cell membranes helped to choose time intervals of tumor cell sonication ensuring potentiation of the cytostatic effects.

[Constitutional characteristics of X-ray anatomical parameters of the diaphragm].

The front straight projections roengenograms and fluorograms of the chest of 1379 healthy persons of both sex, aged 17-22 were studied. Their somatic type was defined beforehand on the gabarital variation level. It was determined that the basic diaphragm roentgeno-anatomical characteristics (the height and form of its dome, the distance from the highest point of the right diaphragmatic dome to the right clavicle shadow-the chest height) have pronounced typical features. The interdependency between the diaphragmatic domes form and the cardiovascular position was detected.

[Enzymatic activity of arterial vessels of the human kidney in the norm and various cardiovascular diseases].

The study was performed in 25 kidneys of people who died from mechanic asphyxia and craniocerebral trauma and in 56 of those who died from cardiovascular diseases (hypertensive disease, chronic ischemic heart disease and their combination) with the use of histochemic, morphometric and variational statistic methods. It was established that in cardiovascular diseases studied ATPase and alkaline phosphatase activity increased in vessels mainly in juxtamedullary zone of the kidneys substantia alba. The enzymatic activity changes studied are obviously connected with the functional load increase at this zone of kidneys and the juxtaglomerular shunt reinforcement. This process can be regarded as the display of compensatory adaptive reactions morphochemical equivalent.

Observation of X-ray lines from a gamma-ray burst (GRB991216): evidence of moving ejecta from the progenitor.

We report on the discovery of two emission features observed in the x-ray spectrum of the afterglow of the gamma-ray burst (GRB) of 16 December 1999 by the Chandra X-ray Observatory. These features are identified with the Ly(alpha) line and the narrow recombination continuum by hydrogenic ions of iron at a redshift z = 1.00 +/- 0.02, providing an unambiguous measurement of the distance of a GRB. Line width and intensity imply that the progenitor of the GRB was a massive star system that ejected, before the GRB event, a quantity of iron approximately 0.01 of the mass of the sun at a velocity approximately 0.1 of the speed of light, probably by a supernova explosion.

[The morphometric characteristics of the types of arterial branching of the human heart].

The coronal arteries (VA) 596 hearts of the people of all age periods postnatal of an ontogenesis are investigated. On the painted microscopic sections VA, and also on serial histotopogram of heart are measured outside (Dn) and internal (Dv) diameters VA at various types of a blood supply of heart is fixed, that at levovenechn a type of a blood supply of heart there is no prevalence of diameters of the right coronal arteria (PVA). At pravovenechn a type of a blood supply of heart of difference between diameters BA not (H > 0.05). The average meanings (importance) of diameters of the left coronal arteria (LVA) always are more PVA (P < 0.05). On the basis of the received data it is offered to survey the following types of branching VA: 1Aa a type--levovenechn a type of branching (LTV) with primary development LVA, 1Ba a type--LTV with identical diameters VA, 2Aa a type--pravovenechn a type of branching (PTV) with prevalence of diameters PVA, 2Ba a type--PTV with identical diameters VA, 2Ba a type--PTV with prevalence of diameters LVA, 3Aa a type--iniform type of branching (RTV) with identical diameters VA, 3Ba a type--RTV with prevalence of a diameter PVA, 3Va a type--RTV with prevalence of a diameter LVA.

[Anatomical parameters determining somatotype of inhabitants of Southern regions of Russia of juvenile and first mature age in the norm and in scoliosis].

With the purpose of study of a degree of an expressiveness and character of mutual relation of fabric components of a soma (osteal, muscular and fatty) at the people of youthful and first mature age in norm and at a scoliosis I-II of a degree is surveyed on a method R.N. Dorohov (1994) 2756 men--inhabitants of the South of Russia. The received results specify that for the people with a scoliosis I-II of a degree are characteristic micro-(person of a female) and macrosomn (person of a male) types at the low contents of muscular and fatty masses of a body in a combination with grasilisation of a skeleton and prolate extremities. Taking into account a rather high degree of a hereditary determination of the dimensional characteristics of an organism it is possible to consider (count) fixed somatotipic of feature as morphological markers of predisposition to scoliotic deformation.
