[Seasonal characteristics of gametogenesis in the Corbicula japonica].

A morphological study of gonads in Corbicula japonica made it possible to distinguish between five stages of gonad maturity. It has been established that stages of active gametogenesis, prespawning and of spawning go almost in parallel and in the shortest time. In July, with the beginning of spawning, gametogenesis does not stop, and oogenesis proceeds up to the end of August. Dynamics of changes of some chemical substances in oocytes was followed. High concentrations of, respectively, RNA, albumens, lipids, glycoproteins and proteoglycans were revealed in oocyte nuclei and nucleoli both at the beginning of the development, and at the stage of active gametogenesis. This testifies in favor of a synthetic activity of these cells.

[Effect of mineral water on metabolic processes].

The paper comparatively analyzes the effect of the mineral water "Penta" on the biochemical parameters of blood and urine, which characterize the functional activity of renal metabolic processes. A group comprising 10 examinees without renal disease took water by the routine mineral water scheme for 4 days. Comparison of the biochemical parameters before and after water taking revealed a significant reduction in azotemia and uric acid levels with its simultaneously enhanced excretion, as well as an increasing tendency for the excretion of oxalates, i.e. the most important parameters determining the formation of urate and oxalate calculi. These findings allow use "Penta", to a certain degree, in the treatment of renal disease, urolithiasis in particular, and in the prevention of stone formation.

Riboflavin content in male spermoplasm.

Riboflavin concentration in male spermoplasm depends on consumption of vitamin B2 and is 3-50 times higher than in the blood plasma, depending on the riboflavin status. Normal levels of riboflavin content in the spermoplasm were evaluated by investigating the metabolic relationship between riboflavin concentration in the spermoplasm and blood plasma and the relationship between riboflavin saturation of the spermoplasm and the duration of treatment with vitamin B2. Both methods yielded close values: 60-130 and 85-96 ng/ml, hence, 80 ng/ml can be taken for the lower normal threshold level of riboflavin in the spermoplasm.

[Coagglutination reactions in diagnosis and treatment of duodenal ulcers].

In this investigation for the first time the results of the reaction of coaglutination (RCA) using as an invasive identification method of H.p-antigene- H. p.-markers in patients with duodenal ulcer in comparison with the rapid urease test and bacterioscopy of bioptate are presented. It was determined that RCA is the rapid, sensitive (87.4%) and specific (100%) method of diagnosis. The titer change of specific antigen H.p. in excrement and in saliva reflexes the efficiency of the anti-bacterial therapy.

[Light effect at various wavelengths on gametogenesis of the Black Sea sea urchin (Strongylocentrotus nudus)].

Comparative study of the effect of light at wavelengths of 720 and 520 nm on the reproductive process in black sea urchin Strongylocentrotus nudus was performed in artificial conditions. The results obtained not only suggest the distinct influence of light on the reproductive process in sea urchin, but also indicate that its effects on oogenesis and spermatogenesis are different. Light at the wavelength of 720 nm was found to activate gonad development, while at the wavelength of 520 nm it had a suppressive effect by decreasing the oogonial and spermatogonial content without disturbing their cellular structure. It is proposed that the gametes which are formed in sea urchins that are exposed to the light with differing wavelengths may possess different capacities for reproduction, thus influencing the viability of the young.

Male reproductive system in conditions of bed-rest in a head-down tilt.

Study of reproductive function in simulating experiments is important as for expansion of our theoretical knowledge in the field of gravitational physiology and space biology and for the decision of applied problems in space and clinical medicine. Long-term bed rest in a head-down tilt--6 degrees (BRHDT)--antiorthostatic hypokinesia is a wide spread method for ground-based simulation of space flight's conditions (mainly of hemodynamical effects of microgravity and restriction of locomotor activity). The aim of the present research was to study a reproductive function in males during 60-120 day BRHDT.

[Regulation of prostatic growth, pathogenesis of prostatic adenoma and cancer].

This review discusses the molecular mechanism of the regulation of prostate growth, maintenance of the prostate integrity and possible disturbances in these processes leading to the development of prostatic cancer and benign hyperplasia. The role of hormones, growth factors, oncogenes is described in more details. The participation of the angiotensin converting enzyme and renin-angiotensin systems in the regulation of polyamine synthesis in the prostate and the regulation of prostate growth is assumed.

[State of the reproductive system of men who participated in the cleaning-up of aftereffects of the Chernobyl AES accident].

A total of 164 males aged from 22 to 50, who had taken part in liquidating the consequences of Chernobyl power station accident, was examined. According to the military cards irradiation dose did not exceed 25 cGy. Semen of 125 examinees was studied. One third of examinees showed sexual dysfunction, which did not appear to depend on the irradiation dose. Analyses revealed pathologic changes in semen and ultrasound demonstrated alterations in prostate and seminal vesicles similar to chronic prostatitis and vesiculitis. No typical radiation-induced lesions were discovered. The author suggest assigning infertility and impotence to the list of entitles, which occurred and exacerbated due to liquidating the consequences of Chernobyl power station accident.

[Changes in the level of the angiotensin-converting enzyme activity in the spermatozoa of patients with chronic prostatitis and of participants in the cleanup of the accident at the Chernobyl Atomic Electric Power Station].

The method of determination of angiotensin-converting enzyme activity in human spermatozoa and sperm plasma was developed. The amount of total and active-mobile spermatozoa was shown to be less in Chernobyl victims than in healthy donors. Moreover, the specific activity of angiotensin-converting enzyme in Chernobyl victims spermatozoa calculated per 10(6) cells was 12-fold greater than in spermatozoa of the donors. Similar phenomenon, although to a les extent, was observed in patients with chronic prostatitis. The enzyme activity in blood serum and sperm plasma was also demonstrated to be similar for all groups investigated and equal to that in healthy donors.

[Changes in lymph microcirculation in appendicular peritonitis].

When studied in experiment (63 dogs) and in clinical settings (116 patients), microlymphatic channel in appendicular peritonitis (AP) was found impaired, while lymphatic drainage of large-molecular substances and metabolites coming from the abdominal cavity appeared activated. Methods of correction of AP-induced abnormalities in microlymphocirculation have been developed which imply three levels of the impact: microcirculation, affected organ, lymphatic system. The clinical trial of the methods proved their efficacy even in the most severe AP forms.

[Proteolytic activity of human ejaculate].

Studies of the ejaculate proteolytic activity, viscosity, and protein concentration in patients with various spermatogenesis levels have revealed that viscosity and proteolysis directly depend on the count of spermatozoa in the ejaculate. Lower values were associated with azospermia. A clear-cut correlation was detected between these parameters and the inflammatory process in the prostate. Exacerbation of chronic prostatitis results in decrease of the ejaculate viscosity and activation of the proteolytic enzymes, this being confirmed by sperm protein electrophoresis, whereas the protein concentration is essentially reduced. These findings necessitate further investigations of the aforesaid parameters over the course of treatment for chronic prostatitis.

[Platelet aggregation and plasma lipid spectrum in patients with myocardial infarct developing on the background of first-time appearing angina pectoris].

Patients with myocardial infarction in the presence of first angina pectoris have been found to display less platelet aggregability in the acute period of the disease than those with recurrent myocardial infarction, which is associated with a lower incidence of postinfarction complications and smaller plasma triglyceride levels. The changes observed in plasma lipid concentrations and platelet aggregation in different periods of the disease have been shown to be similar to those seen in patients with myocardial infarction concurrent with sustained angina.
